Proverbs 29:1, 11
Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes
    will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.

Fools give full vent to their rage,
but the wise bring calm in the end.

New International Version (NIV)
Have you ever had a stiff neck?  Sometimes it starts with the smallest things.  A dog jerking a chain or sleeping on the wrong pillow can cause it.  One of my favorite football coaches loved the expression, "Then we bowed our necks and stood strong . . ."   A stiff neck may be good in football, but not in the work of God's kingdom.

If we bow our necks against God in rebellion, it will not go well for us.  God disciplines those he loves as parents discipline the child they love.  God's rebukes are intended to prevent our utter destruction.   His discipline is redemptive, not punitive.

Instead of bowing our necks today, let us bow on our knees and return to the Lord.  Bring your anger to him and let him give you calmness and wisdom instead.  Today we bend and yield our whole lives to God again.

 Pray with me:
Father, heal our stiff necks and forgive our stubborn resistance to your Spirit.  Help us to surrender unconditionally, coming out with our hands up.  Soften our hearts.  Change our minds.  Remove our anger.  Cover us with your peace.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
