Job 42:5-6
My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.

New International Version (NIV)
Have you ever wanted to give God a piece of your mind?  You would not be the first.  After days of deliberation with friends, Job concluded:  “I need an audience with God so I can tell him what I think.”  He was quite sure that was what he wanted.

When God showed up and spoke up, Job found himself spiritually speechless.  “No further questions, your Honor,” said Job who thought he would play attorney for his own defense.  When God came to him and revealed his great power, all of Job’s questions melted into the background.

All of us have questions about our lives.  When we see God though, we will be like him and we will know as we are known (1 Corinthians 13:12).  Job’s story makes it seem unlikely that any of us will ultimately have either the aspiration or ability to interrogate God.  We will not need to.  We won’t give God a piece of our minds, but he will put our minds at peace.  For Job, seeing God was enough.  It will be for us, too.

Pray with me:
Open our eyes, Lord.  We want to see Jesus – to reach out and touch him, and say that we love him.  Open our ears, Lord and help us to listen.  Open our eyes Lord, we want to see Jesus.  In his holy name we pray.  Amen!
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
