Sexual Assault Awareness Month |
April is recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) at Walsh University to increase awareness, educate our community, and provide empowerment and support to survivors. It is also an opportunity to emphasize the importance of prevention efforts and address the stigma often faced by survivors.
Power-based relationship violence is a life-altering event, with cascading consequences that significantly impact the trajectory of a survivor's life. One in 4 women and 1 in 10 men experience sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking in their lifetime (Geppert et al., 2024; Smith et al., 2018).
Our students, staff, and faculty honored the human dignity of survivors through multiple activities including a partnership serving patients at Aultman Hospital’s Serenity Unit. Students created “After Care Bags” for survivors who are discharged from the hospital that included clothing, toiletries, trauma-informed care items, and personal notes of encouragement from our Cavs Nation.
