4-H Summer Academy

Submitted by: McKinley Krueger
This June, youth from across Wisconsin gathered in Madison for 4-H Summer Academy—a week filled with hands-on learning and career exploration. Delegates chose from tracks like agriculture, civic engagement, baking and decorating, transportation, construction, water science, Quest, performing arts, and visual arts.

I participated in the agriculture track, where we explored careers in dairy, ag business, and small animals. We toured UW–Madison’s ag campus and learned what college life could look like.

Outside of our sessions, we enjoyed a talent show, DECO performance, fun recreational activities, and heard from two inspiring keynote speakers. It was a great week to learn, grow, and make new connections.

Hands of Friendship 4-H

Submitted by: Charli Averbeck
Hands of Friendship members had a blast at breakfast on the farm at Pollack Dairy. They tested the public's seed knowledge in the ag education tent. They even had the chance to meet the fairest of the fair, Maya!

Summer Intern Recap

Hello 4-H Families!
I wanted to share a quick update on what I’ve been up to over the past month! June was a busy one, filled with planning and hosting lots of fun events. One highlight was Foodie Camp, where over the course of three days, youth made a variety of delicious foods from pasta and muffins to homemade poptarts and canned dill pickles. Campers also created their own recipe books to take home as a special keepsake
I also attended a promotional event, Farmyard Frolic, at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds. It was a great opportunity for community members to learn more about 4-H, meet some animals, and see all the exciting things we do!
Planning has been in full swing for our Cloverbud Day Camps. We just wrapped up our first camp, Fun on the Farm, where youth got to pet animals, learn about food groups and vegetables, make butter, and participate in lots of hands-on farm-themed activities. I’m currently working hard on the next two camps, Out of this World and Outdoor Survival!
Now that it’s July, things are getting even busier with more camps and, of course, fair season! The fair is just around the corner, and I’ll be leading fun activities in the Action Center located in the Expo building. Stop by each day for a different activity from button-making and bracelet-making to simple and fun crafts. Be sure to come check it out and say hi!
Looking ahead to August, we’ve got even more in store! Art Camp is coming up August 4th–6th with three full days of creativity: Art Rageous 2-D, Super Sculptures 3-D, and Creative Cultural Arts! Youth will explore painting, oil pastels, 3-D sculpture building, and learn about different cultures through art projects. Later in August, LEGO Camp and Cardboard Camp will take place August 19th–21st! There are still a few spots left, so if you’re interested, be sure to sign up soon. During LEGO Camp, youth will learn building techniques and tackle exciting challenges
At Cardboard Camp: Transportation Station, kids will get creative designing and constructing vehicles and other transportation-themed projects using cardboard!
I’ll also be attending more promotional events in August, including National Night Out and the Alto Fair, to share all that 4-H has to offer!
I can’t wait to see you at the fair!
