Save the Date Las ganas events
Start the Semester Strong Series Over the next few weeks, First-at-LAS will offer interactive workshops focused on academic skill building and development to help students Start the Semester Strong. Topics include: 1. How to prepare for student drop-in hours 2. How to take lecture notes 3. How to build study schedules 4. How to test your knowledge 5. How to run study groups Session descriptions, including dates, times, and locations (all are in-person), can be found in the attached flyer. All students, first-generation and continuing-generation college students, are welcome to attend. Students can also check out the digital guides for each of these areas on the First-at-LAS website: Academic Success Strategies | First at LAS | University of Illinois Chicago (uic.edu) Connect Faculty-Student Mentorship Program Spring enrollment for the Connect Faculty-Student Mentorship Program is open through Monday, January 16th. Students who identify as first-generation college students enrolled in their first, second, or third year may sign up to work with a faculty mentor in their department. Students who participate receive guidance and advice on the college and post-grad journey and work with mentors to identify and work toward goals. Working with faculty in their department also encourages productive and lasting connections with their programs and department life. Students can learn more about the program, including working with mentors and available resources on the website. They can also access the enrollment form: Connect Program | Students | First at LAS | University of Illinois Chicago (uic.edu). LASURI Information Session (Collaboration with LAS Career Development and Internships Office) The first information session will occur on January 30th at 2 PM in the Daley Library, Room 1-470. The session will: • Provide an overview of undergraduate research and the research process. • Explore the value of research for professional growth and development and link to NACE career competencies (presented by Liz Herrera). • Introduce the NEW LASURI application and provide strategies for preparing quality applications (the application is live on SnAP, and the new questions are listed on the LASURI website: Application Process | College of Liberal Arts and Sciences | University of Illinois Chicago (uic.edu). Students can email questions or concerns to first-at-las@uic.edu or lasuri@uic.edu.

Research opportunity; A 9-week summer internship based on polymer science and polymer engineering including polymer chemistry, polymer physics, polymer characterization, and biomaterials.
Emergency Funding for UIC Students

U & I Emergency Fund 

This fund provides temporary, short-term financial assistance to currently enrolled students who are unable to meet essential expenses due to a temporary or unexpected hardship. This emergency funding program is designed to offer financial assistance to students in the form of one-time awards (typically not exceeding $1000). Please be prepared to show documentation supporting claims. 
Examples of expenses typically covered: overdue rent, eviction, medical emergencies, and safety needs. For more information click here
