Dawn's Message

Hello

My name is Dawn Hundt and I am the new UW Extension Administrative Support Specialist. A large portion of my career has been working in schools. Throughout the years I have held a variety of positions which include Payroll, Benefits, as well as Elementary Librarian. This September will be the first time in over 25 years I have not been in school.

My husband and I grew up country kids, with a strong love for animals and the outdoors. We have two children, two dogs, and a cat. I grew up with and until recently owned horses. I can’t wait for the Midwest Horse Fair. We are past members of the Lebanon Luckies 4-H Club and have fond memories of ice cream socials, Dells trips and the Fair.

I love to watch HGTV. My favorite show is “Fixer Upper” with Chip and Joanna Gaines. This may help explain our ongoing DIY remodeling projects at our recently purchased 125-year-old Hundt Family Farm. I never thought we would be empty nesters with a five-bedroom farmhouse. It is great to be back working in Dodge Co. I look forward to meeting and working with you at the UW Extension Office and through the 4-H program.

Youth Building Blue Ribbon Silent Auction

We would like to say a big “THANK YOU” to all the youth who applied for the Youth Building Blue Ribbon Silent Auction. There were 67 applications turned in for the 25 available spots. Every item received a bid and the auction brought the youth a total of $1,604.00.

Record Books & End of the 4-H Year:

Record books will continue to be optional, and the local clubs can continue to make their own requirements for youth to complete 4-H for the year. Youth who would like to complete record books are encouraged to do so. There will be a county level recognition as well. Each club can send no more than 10% of the junior members and no more than 10% of the senior members of their club to the County for record book evaluation. Each project is counted separately, and the overall record book is also counted separately in the ten percent.
Clubs also need to provide volunteers who will sign up to judge the record books.

Annual Financial Reports DUE:

It is time to begin the 4-H Charter process. 4-H Clubs and Groups that have a checking and/or savings account must annually complete and submit the following documents to the 4-H Program Educator by September 1:

Wisconsin 4-H Clubs & Groups Audit Checklist
A copy of the checkbook and/or savings registry covering July 1 – June 30
A copy of the bank statement ending June 30 or July 1 for each account. Any differences between the bank statement(s) and the ending balance reported must be reconciled and the reconciliation must be uploaded with the Annual Financial Report.
A current inventory of land, buildings, property, or project equipment with individual values of $2,000 or greater.
Monthly Treasurer’s Reports for 4-H Clubs or Groups with annual income greater or equal to $20,000.

This process allows the 4-H Club or Group to qualify for federal tax-exempt status under the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents General Exemption Number (GEN) for Wisconsin 4-H Clubs and Groups.

Failure to submit a completed Annual Financial Report and support documents by the due date could result in loss of tax exempt status, forfeiture of all financial assets and non-renewal of the 4-H Club or Group charter. Please contact Marie at 920-386-3790 if you have any questions.

Encourage club volunteers and youth members to serve on these leadership Boards! The 4-H Executive Board members can only serve for two terms at a time, with a total of four years. There are four vacant spots for the board next year and four vacant spots for the youth next year. This rule is put in place so that the same people are not serving the board and new opinions are being put out there. The youth have to be in 7th grade or higher in order to be nominated.

Dodge County 4-H Dairy Promotion Contest

Every 4-H Club in Dodge County is invited to participate in the Dodge County Dairy Promotion Contest and earn money for your club! Any club can participate, regardless if they have or do not have a dairy leader or group. You are to report on only ONE dairy promotion activity that your club has participated in. You may do more than one dairy promotion activity for your club, but please submit only ONE activity to be judged. Complete the enclosed report for a chance to win funds for your club.

In the past, it was required for both the dairy promotion funding and the dairy promotion contest to attend the Family Learning Day session and help at our Dairy Brunch. For the Dairy Promotion Contest only, these requirements will be dropped BUT you will score extra points if you have done either of the past requirements.

The completed Dairy Promotion Report will be due at the Extension office on the same day the record books are due or at the September Leaders Meeting.

Field Trip Opportunity

Fall is in the air, and we are so excited to offer a unique field trip experience again! Seeing your smiling faces brings smiles to our faces as we hear the laughter and see the little feet and hands explore the fall outdoors at Ebert’s Greenhouse Village. We are pleased to offer field trips for $8 per student and $6 per chaperone. Classroom teachers are free. The fee includes a hayride, a small pumpkin for students, a craft project, a story, and full access to our play areas. Although many ages enjoy the program and activities, it is especially geared toward pre-kindergarten to 3rd grade.

Ebert's Greenhouse Village Kid's Korner

Older Youth Leadership Opportunity & LEGOs too!

Do you love LEGOS? The Hustisford Community Library is seeking a 4-H Youth in grade 7-13 or a certified 4-H Volunteer to lead a monthly LEGO activity session on Wednesdays for 1 hour in September - November. The LEGO sessions are open to all community youth and the LIbrary would love to have a 4-H Youth lead one, two or all three sessions. Attendees are typically youth in grades 5K-6. This is a great opportunity for older youth to demonstrate leadership activities on a resume, for scholarship applications, or in a 4-H Record Book.

WHAT: LEGO Building Activity Sessions - a 4-H Youth to lead a one hour session

WHO: 4-H Youth in grades 7-13

WHEN: 2nd Wednesday of the month from 3:30-4:30pm (Sept. 13; Oct. 11; Nov. 8)

Beef Project Display Challenge!

The Wisconsin Beef Council and Wisconsin 4-H Foundation are offering a display contest to all Wisconsin 4-H beef project members. The goal of the contest is to encourage 4-H beef project members and exhibitors to create an informative and appealing display that will educate consumers attending fairs or other events throughout the summer.
Entry deadline: September 30th.
