Discontinued Programs
Attention: Chairs and Directors, and Directors of Undergraduate Studies
This information is to provide further clarification regarding processes when a College program of any kind is discontinued. While USRR does not explicitly include in university program discontinuance policy concentrations within a major; or minors (and concentrations within them); the same need for a responsible, transparent plan exists when concentrations and minors are discontinued.
This statement serves to clarify that the College and its departments and programs will follow the same timeline and procedures for all active discontinuations, including concentrations and minors, in order to provide clear and consistent options for students and a means for proactive and realistic planning by departments during the teach out phase of a discontinued curriculum pathway of any kind. This has been vetted with the University Registrar to ensure that all information and practices remain consistent.
This includes:
1) Articulation of and commitment to a teach out plan to ensure students already following the curriculum have a viable completion pathway.
2) Communication to students currently in the program (and recently in the program to the extent possible).
3) No further admittance of students to a discontinued pathway after the last admit term has passed.
4) Advising assistance for interested students to find a related program at KU.
Please share this information with others as needed in order for everyone to be clear about planning for any type of discontinuation and student options related to them. Feel free to reach out directly to Karen Ledom on behalf of the College Dean’s office – kjh@ku.edu – with any questions.
