It was a good summer, more than 300 kids and leaders went to camp and experienced the best week of their lives. Some kids heard about Jesus and how to live for Him for the first time. Relationships deepened between kids and leaders and authenticity developed. It was said time and time again - it was hard but good. Vulnerability is hard, many kids come from lives that the odds are stacked against them, but when walls come down it is always good. Camp allows for that - they have a chance to be away and immersed into a culture of love.

We are officially full force into the new school year. Teams are ready to go, out in the schools, meeting kids, planning clubs, devoting hours to study and relationships with Middle School and High School students throughout the city and county. Please continue to pray for our college students in leadership roles and for kids, some who have never had someone devote time and energy to knowing them and who will introduce them to the One who knows them best.

Banquet

Fall  also means it's banquet time. This year the banquet is on Tuesday October 10th. This is our annual fundraiser to cover our operating budget for the next year. Our opperating costs entail everything that goes into studies, club, office expenses and all staff saleries.

If you would like more information and register as a guest or a table host, please visit our banquet page on the Harrisonburg/ Rockingham Young Life website:

Camp Stories: Kelly - Capernaum

It was Day 4 of Capernaum Camp and Kelli was having one of the happiest weeks of her life. Normally Kelli is a bit reserved and is selectively mute, so conversations are limited. However this week Kelli was coming out of her shell, much more than any of the leaders had every seen her. We were sitting in cabin time processing what we had just heard the speaker talk about: sin, the cross, and Jesus' resurrection. We talked about what this meant for our lives and that because Jesus died and rose for us, we now could have a relationship with Jesus. We had a poster and markers sitting on the floor and asked if anyone would like to write their name on the poster signifying that they wanted to have a relationship with Jesus. Kelli was the first one to grab the marker from the floor and write her name. Often times, it takes Kelli a few minutes to process and respond to what you have said. However, when she heard us talk about having a relationship with Jesus, she responded immediately. Our friends may have physical or mental disabilities, but they do not have spiritual disabilities. They have the right to a relationship with Jesus just like anyone else! We are so happy that Kelli, among many others, have taken the first step to start a relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ.

Camp Stories: Ulises - TA

Camp was no surprise for Ulises, as a second timer the element of surprise for camp was not an attraction to him. But on night four of camp I was able to surprise Ulises by taking him on a night time zip line ride. Walking up the steps to the zip line was when I was able to first recognize Jesus tugging on his heart. There was something different about this camp trip for Ulises than the last, something more. The next night Ulises heard that Jesus died for him to set him free from so many things that were keeping him in bondage back in Harrisonburg, and that was when Jesus become very clear and real for him. After club Ulises and I were able to go out to a tiki torch and talk about the areas of his life that were not meeting the expectations he had hoped for them. He said that he was tired of coming up empty in life and wanted purpose and meaning; he wanted a relationship with Jesus. Since coming home I often receive texts from Ulises asking if he can come over and read the Bible, or asking me questions about things he has been reading. I have never seen anything like it before, but the Lord works in mysterious ways, and Ulises is a testament to the Lord and his faithfulness and power.
