Since our center’s launch in 2015, PHS has been fortunate to develop an incredible trove of rich data. In hopes of expanding our trans-disciplinary research collaborations, the 2017 Annual Symposium on November 6th will highlight some of our most exciting data.

Clalit (Israel) is a claims dataset that covers 54% of the Israeli population from 1999-2017 and includes a large cohort of individuals from the same families, allowing researchers to follow offspring into middle age when disease develops.
The Alcoa study (USA) has followed 230,000 aluminum manufacturing workers and their spouses/dependents for over 20 years and can be linked to Medicare, US Census, social security, and death data.
Linking to data through the Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (USA) lets you add population-level demographic and socio-economic characteristics to your analyses, and can connect you to administrative data from federal agencies including the Social Security Administration, Housing and Urban Development, Veterans Affairs, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The Research Center for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX, Czech Republic) leads the European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood (ELSPAC). ELSPAC has followed 7,589 children born in Brno & Znojmo in 1991 (shortly after the Velvet Revolution!), collecting detailed biological, social, environmental, economic, and health data.
As part of a larger Gates funded Lancet series exploring social gender norms and adolescent health, we’ve been able to harmonize gender norm indicators on intimate partner violence and health outcome indicators on care seeking and child stunting for 30+ countries.
During the symposium, we’ll provide an overview of the data, sharing examples of the cutting-edge research inspired in different areas such as genetics, aging and workplace disability, and gender violence in developing economies. Each session will include a panel that will discuss linkages to other data and how diverse disciplines can potentially use these data to explore intriguing new research questions. The PHS Data Core team will be on hand to assist researchers interested in data access. We hope that you can join us!
