ACHIEVEMENTS
Joseph Canton and Meghan Cronin have been named HASTAC (Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Alliance and Collaboratory) scholars. They are among only four IUP students ever to receive this recognition. Canton will work on an academic podcast at IUP, and Cronin will explore the study and teaching of Shakespeare through digital means.
Laura Ferguson, Department of Music, was a conductor and speaker at four recent Pennsylvania Music Educators Association events. She presented in-service workshops to three different PMEA districts on “Jazz Choir Basics,” “How to Front the Band,” “Jazz Diction,” and “Beginning Vocal Jazz Improvisation.” She also conducted the District 6 Jazz Choir.
Valerie Long, Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, gave two presentations at a recent conference of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. One was on math curriculum recommendations to prepare elementary teachers. The other was on a new graduate course to familiarize K-12 teachers with cognitive science research for learning math.
Sudipta Majumdar (Madia Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, and Engineering) has published a paper in ACS Omega with several collaborators, including his former student Arie Van Wieren ’21. Their study focused on characterizing common axial ligand mutations of a bacterial small laccase from the species Streptomyces coelicolor.
