Acts 6:15
15 All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

New International Version (NIV)
“Those who look to the Lord are radiant” (Psalm 34:5). Have you ever seen a radiant person? I’m not talking about a sunburn! Recently, I heard one of my friends describe one of our members, “She has a face like an angel.” I am inclined to agree. Sometimes, the joy of the Lord is visible!

Stephen’s face was like the face of an angel. Remember he was on trial for being a follower of Jesus. They were treating him the same way Jesus was treated. Lying witnesses falsely accused Stephen. He had done nothing wrong. When others were at their worst, God was at his best, giving Stephen perfect peace. “You will keep in perfect peace, those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you” (Isaiah 26:3).

While everyone looked at Stephen, he looked to the Lord. So may we. Without question, the world is watching Christians these days. What do they see? If our goal is to win them to Jesus, we will not do it by being more unkind than our accusers. We cannot accomplish God’s purpose using the world’s methods. “Fixing our eyes on Jesus.” The angels look at Jesus all day long. So may we. When we do what they do, we may come to resemble them. As we look to the Lord, his light may reflect in us and through us to others. Look to the Lord.  Be radiant.

Pray with me:
Father, help us to turn our eyes upon Jesus today. He is the author and finisher of our faith. We remember how Jesus endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at your right hand. Make us like Jesus. Let our light shine so that others may see our good deeds and glorify you. Let your irresistible love flow through your people today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
