World Heart Day 2025 Highlights
Dear Colleague,
SOLVE-CHD celebrated World Heart Day with a series of engaging and impactful events held across Australia, promoting the importance of cardiac rehabilitation in diverse communities. Explore the highlights below!
'Beats of Change' BBC Storyworks Film
We were incredibly proud and excited to unveil 'Beats of Change' – a powerful new film series presented by the World Heart Federation and produced by BBC Storyworks.
SOLVE-CHD's episode follows the inspiring story of Ross, who received a life-changing diagnosis during what was supposed to be a routine job application. His journey to recovery is a powerful reminder of how innovative research and compassionate care can transform lives.
Watch the film below and support us in reimagining cardiac rehabilitation and recovery after heart disease – creating more accessible, connected, and patient-centred care.
'Beats of Change' BBC Storyworks Premiere at Gold Coast University Hospital, QLD
On 29 September, the Beats of Change series premiered at Gold Coast University Hospital, accompanied by a panel discussion featuring Professor Julie Redfern, Dr Darryn Marks, and a patient with lived experience. The event highlighted the importance of life after heart disease, bringing together researchers and individuals with lived experience to share insights and personal journeys.
Parade Your Program – Cardiac Rehabilitation Creative Display Competition
To celebrate cardiac rehabilitation programs across Australia, SOLVE-CHD invited them to get creative and craft a visual display for our 'Parade Your Program' Competition. Displays were showcased to the wider community, who then got to vote for their favourites to be the winners.
Congratulations to Bathurst Health Service Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Epworth Camberwell Cardiac Rehabilitation for winning the hearts of voters with their vibrant, engaging and thoughtful displays! ❤️
A huge thank you to every program who participated - it was truly inspiring to see the invaluable work you do for the community, and with such passion, team spirit and genuine care.
Make sure to check out all the displays below for more photos and descriptions (and lovely comments from the community!)

Barwon Health Meet-and-Greet, VIC
Connecting with the community for World Heart Day, SOLVE-CHD's Dr Sarah Gauci visited the Barwon Health cardiac rehabilitation program in Victoria for a cosy and insightful meet-and-greet. After a thought-provoking presentation on heart disease and how to get involved in cardiac research, participants took the time to reflect on their own journeys in heart health and enjoy a chat over afternoon tea.
A big thank you to everyone who attended! In sharing our stories and experiences on cardiac rehabilitation, we build a stronger community, richer understanding, and healthier future together.
'Know Your Numbers' Morning Tea, WA
SOLVE-CHD Postdoc Dr Nikky Gordon and the WA Centre for Rural Health (University of Western Australia) hosted a lively “Know Your Numbers” morning tea - shining a spotlight on heart health awareness.
Staff and students took part in interactive stations where they could measure, learn, and reflect on key risk factors for heart disease - from blood pressure, BMI and waist circumference to nutrition and physical activity.
A huge thank you to our dedicated dietetic and public health students, who led the activities with such enthusiasm and energy, making heart health education both engaging and impactful.
Interview with Julie Redfern
We also spotlighted an insightful interview with Julie Redfern - SOLVE-CHD Chief Investigator and expert in preventive cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and digital health.

Watch the interview below as she shares practical advice on how individuals and communities can take action to improve heart health and reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.
