Introducing the First Graduates!

In May 2020, four students will become the first students with intellectual/developmental disabilities in Colorado to graduate from schools offering inclusive higher education pathways. To celebrate, we will be following three UCCS students (photos below) over the course of this year as they prepare for graduation and life after college.
Ashley studies Advocacy and Human Services. She is committed to making sure people with disabilities have a strong voice in their life.
Nick studies Photojournalism. Nick’s commitment to inclusion and desire to go to college led him to be among the first students with Down syndrome to attend UCCS
Mia studies American Sign Language (ASL) and Education. Mia is engaged across campus, working for the Human Services office, teaching ASL to young children, taking hip hop classes and more.

Back to Campus

In August, 72 students (47 returning students and 25 new students) with intellectual and developmental disabilities headed back to campus at the University of Northern Colorado, Arapahoe Community College, and University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Some are living in dorms, some are living in apartments, and some are commuting to campus via bus and/or lightrail. All are taking courses aligned with their unique career interests, engaged in social activities across campus, and participating in career development.

Community Support

Pulling in the Fun

Last week IN! participated in Johnson Storage and Moving's annual Truck Pull event. 10 teams, including a team from IN!, competed to see who could pull three different sized moving trucks the fastest. The event raised $10,600 for IN! and Easterseals Colorado. This event would not have been possible without the support of Johnson and all of the attendees who made it so much fun!

IN! Receives Grant from Developmental Pathways

IN! received a grant of $5,000 from Developmental Pathways' (DP) Community Outreach program. The funding will support IN! in our efforts to create a local employment outreach program that will contribute to our goals to engrain, expand, and make permanent college pathways and career opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities in Arapahoe and Douglas Counties.
