Ken Stedman Named Finalist for NPR's "Golden Mole" Award
Biology Professor Ken Stedman was recognized by NPR for one of the year's 12 best instances of " Accidental Brilliance in Science." After accidentally leaving a solution out on a counter overnight, Stedman's lab discovered a way to preserve viruses in a glassy, dissolvable substance – a technique that could extend the shelf life of vaccines and allow for storage at room temperatures.

Speech and Hearing Sciences Students in the Community
Over the past two weeks, students and faculty from Speech and Hearing Sciences conducted on-site hearing screenings of 2,800 students in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. The screenings help identify hearing loss which often goes undetected for years in children. An undetected hearing loss can have negative effects on behavior, academic success, relationships, and many other activities.

- Proposals are currently being accepted for the 2016 Student Research Symposium
- Applications are due May 6 for PSU's Cleantech Challenge. Undergraduates, graduates, postdocs and faculty from Oregon colleges and community colleges are invited to compete for $50,000 in grants and prizes
- The XSB will be re-named the Parkmill Building beginning April 25.

Linda George, Environmental Science and Management, discussed the toxic air pollution situation in Portland with KATU and The Oregonian.
Keith Kaufman, Psychology, received a $750k grant to create a nationwide prevention manual that can help colleges and universities prevent sexual assaults. Listen to his OPB Think Out Loud interview.
