You’ve just bought a sandwich — now where can you actually eat it? You have a remote class 10 minutes after an in-person class — where can you sit down and log on quickly? Or maybe you just need someplace to study quietly.
In line with our emphasis on reducing density by limiting indoor gathering at dining halls, common areas, and study rooms, we created NYU Study & Learning Spaces last semester to fill the void. Using NYU Scan & Reserve in the NYU Mobile app (download for iOS or Android), you can easily reserve a space in advance using your phone. And, starting this semester, you can now walk in and pick any available seat — just scan the QR code with the Scan & Reserve reader on the seat of your choice with your mobile device to check in and check out.
There are four different types of spaces for different needs:
- Quiet Study space for a quiet place to work individually
- Learning space to join an online class or study
- Quick Stop space to use for 30 minutes or less, the only areas where eating is permitted
- Student Technology Centers for access to technology and specialized resources (available for advance reservation only)
Scan & Reserve will require you to do the following:
- Present your Daily COVID-19 Screener and NYU Card to enter the building.
- Find your room and select any available seat.
- Tap Scan & Sit in the Scan & Reserve app and use the QR scanner to scan and begin your reservation.
- Before you leave, tap the in-app End Reservation button. This will support accurate contact tracing and free the seat for other students.
The first time you use the system, you’ll be prompted to download the NYU Scan & Reserve app. After that, the app will automatically open for you.
So, don’t think you have to wolf down that gyro on a freezing park bench or run like the wind to your dorm for your next remote class. A nice cozy chair is likely just steps away...
