Milestone for FTI Defense at Redstone Gateway

It was truly a pleasure to join Congressman Dale Strong at the recent ribbon cutting for FTI Defense’s newest facility at Redstone Gateway. Congressman Strong is a great advocate for Huntsville and it has been an honor to work with him over the years to address District 5 concerns when he was Madison County Commission Chair and now he serves as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

A big congratulations to FTI Defense on this milestone. The new facility will further support their mission to deliver advanced technology, services and expertise to help protect our nation and bring warfighters home safely.

Marking One Town Hall, Planning Another

Thank you to everyone who came out for the District 5 Town Hall Aug. 11 at St. Luke Christian Church on Sparkman Drive. We had a great turnout and productive conversations about a number of issues. I also want to thank Huntsville Police North Precinct Commander Capt. Scott Widner for taking time to attend and speak with residents. I always enjoy spending time with constituents and hearing directly from you.

My next town hall will be Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 28520 Wall St., Madison. The topic will be upcoming development in and around your neighborhood. This is guaranteed to be a meeting you don't want to miss!

D5 Community Forum on License Plate Cameras

In response to the avalanche of citizen concerns regarding the use of Flock cameras in Huntsville, I will be hosting a community forum in Council Chamber at Huntsville City Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m. My guests will be Huntsville Police Chief Kirk Giles and North Alabama Multi-Agency Crime Center Director Curt Worshek, who will provide their expertise about the cameras.

All citizens are invited to come hear and ask questions with these subject matter experts.

Groundbreaking for Westmoore Landing

I was happy to take part in the recent celebration that was the groundbreaking ceremony for Westmoore Landing. This $2.2 billion investment in the southwestern portion of District 5 is a mixed-use community that will greatly enhance the development needs in this part of Huntsville by bringing retail, restaurants, gathering spaces and a variety of housing options that support residents at every stage of life and income level. It will also provide closer housing choices for employees of Mazda Toyota, Polaris, Amazon and eventually Eli Lilly, helping to shorten their commutes while also alleviating traffic on other roadways.

Graham Farms Bringing 1,400 Homes to District 5

Meanwhile, on the northwestern side of District 5, I was pleased to support a project development agreement for another mixed-use development known as Graham Farms in Limestone County. This is an exciting new project with 1,400 residential lots at multiple price points as well as multi-family and retail space on a 300-acre site bounded by Greenbrier Parkway to the west, Mooresville Road to the east and Huntsville Brownsferry Road to the north. This development will bring varied housing stock to a portion of the city where none currently exists and will be the first to offer affordable housing for the active 55+ community, where they can purchase their home rather than rent it.

'Inside Huntsville' Interview

Anytime host Brenda Martin invites me to join her on “Inside Huntsville” on HSV-TV, I am happy to be there. We had a great conversation about the quality of life in District 5. We also talked about my strong belief about the importance of being accessible to constituents, the value of relationships with neighboring communities as well as recent developments and accomplishments in west Huntsville. District 5 Beautification Award

As Huntsville grows, it’s important that we preserve what we already have and that’s why the City of Huntsville’s Beautification Awards are so vital. It was my honor to present the District 5 Beautification Award to Walden at Providence. This multi-family development consistently works to make its campus as attractive as possible.

New Parking Deck at Orion Amphitheater

Good news for those attending events at The Orion Amphitheater. The City Council recently approved a construction contract to build a four-story parking deck adjacent to the amphitheater. It’s expected to be completed in April 2028. The yellow area in the image above represents where the parking deck will be located.
