100 Years, 100 Treasures: Exhibit Opening

This exhibition is the conclusion of the BeatyTreasures.com election campaign. After months of speculation, the top ten treasures will be revealed! To mark UBC’s centennial year, the exhibition will explore the history of the museum collections intertwined with the history of the university. Join us on May 28 for Museum Tours, Puppet Shows, and screenings of our whale documentary Raising Big Blue throughout the day. At 4:00 p.m. find out which treasures were elected into our special centennial exhibiton at the unveiling.

Did you know that you can find an entire food web, from voracious predators to crafty prey, in the water trapped by the leaves of bromeliad plants? Join UBC professor Diane Srivastava as she takes you on a journey to the tropics to discover the aquatic insects that live in bromeliads. She will make this miniature world seem larger than life. Learn more about The Srivastava Lab.

100 Years, 100 Treasures
May 28, 2016 - May 28, 2017

After months of speculation, the top ten treasures will be revealed! To mark UBC’s centennial year, 100 Years, 100 Treasures will explore the history of the museum collections intertwined with the history of the university. Visitors will hear what the experts have to say about the top specimens in a video installation, and get the chance to share their own favourite treasures in an interactive social media component.

Finding Place: Collecting Home Through Field Journal Art
April 8, 2016 - August 28, 2016

Finding Place explores the intersection of art and science through detailed botanical field journals and paintings. Plant ecologist and artist, Lyn Baldwin, captures her home province of British Columbia in great detail while searching for what it means to belong to a place and find stories of home.

From Meadows Woodlands Far and Near
March 10, 2016 - September 4, 2016

From Meadows Woodlands Far and Near features Brigitte Potter-Mael's delicate watercolours and striking woodcuts, as well as Proverbial Botany, a collaborative piece with sound artist Andreas Kahre. The works are inspired by plants from the landscapes of Lone Valley, Germany and British Columbia.
