Area Animal Science Day Registration is Open!

Check out the 4-H Website for more information about these contests: https://4h.extension.wisc.edu/.../area-animal-science-days/

Participant Registration: Youth in grades 3-8 are invited to compete in the junior division, while youth in grades 9-13 are invited to compete in the senior division. Participants MUST register individually.

To register, please go to 4HOnline (v2.4honline.com), log in to your account, and click “Events” on the left-hand menu. Dairy participants should select “2021 Dairy Judging Regionals”. You will select a specific location after picking the event. Livestock participants should select “2021 State Livestock Judging Contest”.

Coach Registration: Due to contact tracing requirements, we must track everyone who will be present at the fairgrounds on the day of the event. In order to keep check-in moving smoothly, we are asking coaches to complete this form: https://forms.gle/diYWnMkFPUUv48P16. This will allow us to have a record of some of our adults in advance and help you track which youth participants have registered.

Please reach out to Laura Pine at the Wisconsin 4-H Office, (608) 262-1222 or lpine@wisc.edu, with any registration questions. We are so looking forward to seeing you in June!!

Adult Leaders & TLA Foodstand Sign- Ups

Adult Leader Association Food Stand

Now is the time to sign up your club for shifts in the 4-H food stands at the county fair. These are major fundraisers for the county 4-H program, benefitting all clubs, members, and the communities in which they reside. For the Adult Leader Food Stand, eight to twelve workers are needed per shift. Older teens or adults are needed to sign up to be managers for half a day in the Adult Leader Food Stand. One or two individuals will be helping with the silent auction/raffle tables.
Time slots for both food stands can be viewed at: https://fonddulac.extension.wisc.edu/events-activities/ under 4-H Fundraising Events. To sign up for a time slot, please contact the office (920) 929-3171.

Teen Leader Association Food Stand

Each 4-H club is asked to secure one adult and three youth (age 12 or older) volunteers. Shifts may be broken down, so people can work half a shift, then be replaced with another club representative for the other half. In the event your first choice is already filled, please have an alternate choice ready. The building is air-conditioned. You’ll find it is a great place to volunteer! All workers are reminded to wear a hat or tie their hair back.

4-H Dairy Judging

First practice Thurs, June 3

4-H Dairy Judging is back from a one-year COVID hiatus, and it’s time to start practicing! Please join us for the first practice on Thursday, June 3, RyanVu Dairy (Mark & Chad Ryan families), N3934 Hwy 175, Fond du Lac!

What is dairy judging? Individual 4-Hers judge a class of four (4) dairy animals, place them in order based on the confirmation, and have their results compared to the actual judge. Generally, there are 6 to 8 classes of dairy animals to judge with 2 to 3 classes where questions are asked (for Jr contestants) or reasons are given (for Sr contestants) after the class is judged and the animals are away. The classes can be any dairy breed, and any age group (calves, heifers, cows, etc.). This is a great opportunity to learn more about dairy selection, so you can use what you learn to select your future dairy project animals!

This year’s contest will be Wednesday, June 16, 2021, in Marathon County, allowing our older dairy youth to participate in the State FFA Convention.

Practices will be held at 6:30 pm and will include:
Thursday, June 3: RyanVu Dairy, Mark & Chad Ryan, N3934 Hwy 175, Fond du Lac
Thursday, June 10: Forest Ridge Dairy, Kurt & Sarah Loehr, W2133 Randellen Lane, Eden
Sunday, June 13: Evan & Taylor Schrauth, N2863 Stumpf Road, Waupun

Joe Loehr will serve as a coach and Chad Ryan will help where needed. For any questions, contact Joe Loehr at 920-517-9216 or joeloehr75@yahoo.com

If you are interested in dairy judging, let us know, so we can prepare and know who to expect!

4-H Graduation

Traditionally, the Fond du Lac County 4-H salutes its graduates during the Fond du Lac County Fair on Sunday afternoon. We ask that you please save the date Sunday, July 18, at 2:00 p.m. for 4-H graduation. Recognition is given at this time, rather than at the 4-H Achievement Program in October because some of the graduates are away at college, but please know this may become an option, if we cannot hold a traditional graduation ceremony. Please know it is optional to participate in this recognition event. To help us plan the program and have supplies for graduation, we ask that youth members in grades 12 & 13 please complete a short survey. If you are a grade 12 member but plan on staying in an additional year, please complete the survey as well.
