From the Camp Director,

Greetings from Hanging Rock,

I trust you are doing well and staying safe during this time.

As you know, we have experienced a different summer than origanlly planned with COVID-19. While this is no doubt disappointing to many young people, we are trusting that we can soon get back to some semblance of “normal.”

On July 4th Govenor Holcomb gave us the green light to start running some overnight camps. The leadership of Hanging Rock thought it would be best to not run any of our programs but let churches come and run their own programs. I'm very happy with the amount of Churches that have participated in July. I just want to thank these Churches! It means so much that you helped us during these times. It felt so good to have kids back on our property even if we did things differently the Camp was used to the Glory of God!
  • Church in Peoria Illinois ran an all boys high school camp
  • First Church of Christ - Covington
  • Cross Lane Christian Church - Terre Haute
  • Woodland Heights Christian Church - Crawfordsville
  • North Salem Christian Church - North Salem
  • Lebanon Christian Church - Lebanon
  • Cayuga Christian Church - Cayuga
  • Clarks Hill Christian Church - Clarks Hill
  • Lafayette Urban Ministries  - Camp for 3rd - 5th graders.
  • Rockville Christian Church - Rockville
I wanted to take this opportunity also to let you know how much we appreciate your support, prayers, and patience during this unprecedented time. Our Church support is up and our individual support is up. We would not be able to offer any opportunities for these churches if it was not for you! Thank You!  Thank you Lebanon Christian & North Salem Christian Church for providing us cereal for the summer as well.

While we may have some challenges ahead, I believe with all my heart that we are up to the task because as believers, we can be filled with grace.

Romans 12:10 (NKJV) 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another;

We want this time to be a tremendous witness to the world of how things can be accomplished while seasoned with the grace God gives to the believers.

Blessings in Christ,
Gary Baker, Executive Director

Family Camp 2020

We are very excitied to be able to move forward with Family Camp this year: We do have some changes we are making to the schedule: We would like for you to be prepared to share your talent. Yes! We are bringing back talent night at family camp. Pleas be prepared to share with everyone the talents you have. This will happen during our Sunday Night Main Session.
We are still working out the details of other changes that will need to take place this year with Covid-19. We are considering outside worship, and grab and go meals from the dining room. Just know that we will have to make some adjustments. Also, we are going to be a little low on staff because our college kids will not be able to join us this year as they will not be allowed to leave campus to travel back to camp. With that being said:  we are going to be looking for extra volunteers.
We need everyone to register ahead of time this year. We will not be able to take walk-ins. Registrations will be limited to the first 250 people.
Also, we have made registration very simple this year.

From the Maintenance Director,

Summer has flown by!  What a wild ride it has been here at Hanging Rock.  For the month of June our summer staff were consumed with mowing grass, weed eating, trimming trees, clearing trails, revamping the paintball area, cleaning, painting, opening the pool, etc…  It was one week of orientation followed by three weeks of service projects.  They did a great job even though it was not what they had signed on for back in the Winter and Spring.  Thank you Summer Staff!  I pray you all have a great year at School or at Work when you leave Hanging Rock.

Thank you to all the volunteers who have been here this summer.  Terry Evans has been working hard cleaning up trees at the pond.  Pat Childress has been working on the flowers around the buildings and they are beautiful.  Greg and Bev Hall have been over in July helping in many different ways here at camp.  Thank you for all your hard work!

Thank you to the Mickle Family for donating an old barn to the camp.  Our summer staff and Terry Evans went and tore it down and brought the lumber and metal back to the camp.  We will be able to use that for various projects.  Thank you!

This Fall looks like it will be a little slower, but we will still need help mowing and we will need help when the leaves start to fall, mulching and running the leaf vacs!  If you are interested in helping out, please give me a call!  We’d love to have you here at camp.

All For Him,
Ben Hannum, Maintenance Director

Finance/Refund Update:

Church Income is up - 3.2%
Individual Income is up - 18.1%
Summer Camp Income is down - 80.1%
Campers that donated their camp fees - 59%
Churches that donated their camp fees - 97%
We give God the Glory for the way He has provided for the camp during this time. With summer camp income down by 80% we are only $25,700.50 in the red.  This could have been a lot worse. We usually depend on retreats in the Fall to help offset our expenses as well and all of our Fall retreats have cancelled at this point also. With no retreats in the Fall we are really going to be depending on our churches and our individual supporters to help carry the camp during this time. We do have a couple of fundraisers planned to help with the deficit we have.  Our prayer is that with our churches and our individual donors we can still end the year in the black. To help us meet our finanical obligations if you would like to donate you can either send a check to the camp or donate online. We appreciate everything you give and do not take your gifts for granted.
