The Word became flesh. Today. He entered human history. This day. He walked amidst us. The very people He had created. He came to us. Into our humanity. He opened the door for us to eternity.
Today more than any other day we are invited to let Christ cross the threshold of our hearts. To welcome Him – that He may abide with us.
As the quote for today’s reflection above reminds us, Christmas is not a static, historical recollection, but a reminder that following Christ is a way of being and becoming, a daily growing into the likeness of the One who became like us so that we might take on His divine image.
God comes not only to take our side but to take on our weakness that we might come to know His gentle power in the person of Jesus Christ. God invites each one of us – in our smallness and brokenness – to give ourselves in love after the example of His beloved Son.
St Elizabeth Ann Seton’s entire life testified to the meaning of the Incarnation. In Jesus’ vulnerability, He taught us to trust that all of God’s purposes redound to our good. In God’s gift of Himself in Jesus Christ, He taught us how to freely give ourselves to others.
St Elizabeth Ann Seton captures beautifully this movement: “Put your heart at His feet. It is the gift He loves most.”
God’s blessings to you and your loved ones on this Christmas day! May His peace be in your heart today and into the coming year!
