E-Viewpoints June 2020
June 2020
Alumni and Friends,
Greetings from the College of Human Sciences (COHS) at Texas Tech University. I hope you enjoy the latest issue of E-Viewpoints, our quarterly college newsletter. Over the past few months, our college has adapted to many changes. We celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates and wish them the best moving forward in their careers.

I am honored to share the latest stories of overcoming adversity by our students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Many of them have displayed amazing resiliency and creative problem-solving skills during this time.

Outreach and engagement with communities is one of the cornerstones of our college as we not only provide much-needed services to communities but also enhance opportunities for students to learn in realistic settings. You will read about recent outreach efforts, such as the Center for Early Head Start and how they continued reaching families in need during the pandemic. See also the impactful gift from the Moody Foundation and how that will change the customer experience and the learning environment for so many students at Skyviews Restaurant.

Students and faculty are recognized with distinguished awards in this issue. Finally, I encourage you to celebrate our honors graduates and Outstanding Seniors from each academic program.

I am proud to share these stories of courage and groundbreaking advancements with you all. As you dive into this issue, I encourage you to share your latest news and updates as well.

COHS Diversity Statement
We are committed to taking actions that create a learning environment where all feel valued, respected, supported, and empowered.
The turmoil and uncertainty surrounding racism and racial injustice presently dominating the state of our nation is not a new phenomenon. The events causing such pain currently are rooted in our country's political, cultural, and social history. Undoubtedly, many members of our College of Human Sciences family, both past and present, have been impacted by this reality in numerous ways. Now, more than ever, we want to assure our students, faculty, staff, community partners, and alumni that we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community for all. We both endorse and echo the words of Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec that: "we must treat every person in this community with the respect and compassion they deserve."

During this time, we must recommit and work harder to improve and enhance the human condition for every person. Our path forward must be deliberate and intentional. We must pause, listen, and reflect, and then keep moving forward, drawing on our strength as a community of scholarship, discovery, and engagement to support individual and collective actions within our community that make progress towards systemic change.
