Internship Bulletin
A good internship opportunity is available for Spring 2016. If you are required to do the MPA internship (you discuss this with your advisor) and you have at least 21 credits successfully completed in the program, email Dr. Streams if you are interested. Details follow. For more information on the internship requirement/application for exemption process, read this FAQ. In any case, if you anticipate doing any internship in Spring 2015, contact Dr. Streams mmediately.
"Each year, when the legislature is in session, MTAS provides significant support directly to the legislature and frequently through the Tennessee Municipal league (TML) to the legislature. Typically, that support is in the form of assessing the affect and impact proposed legislation may have on town and city governments in Tennessee both operationally and financially. MTAS literally reviews every piece of proposed legislation and offers the operational assessment to TML and fiscal assessment to the Office of Fiscal Review on any bill that may impact city government.
We would like to offer an intern opportunity to a graduate level MPA candidate who would work with the MTAS attorneys as they work to provide the assessments. The internship will consist of preparing bills for bill review, researching legislative issues, monitoring bills as they come up in committees and on the floor, inputting information related to bills in a spreadsheet, and attending meetings as a part of the bill review and drafting process. The work schedule would be for up to 15 hours per week and the compensation would be $12.00 per hour. The start date for the internship would be January 11, 2016 and continue until the legislature adjourns. Last session, it adjourned April 22nd. As with other IPS intern possibilities, the candidate would interview with the MTAS consultant who would be supervising the work prior to an offer of the internship being made."
