Judges 13:24-25
The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the Lord blessed him, and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
New International Version (NIV)
A cross-stitch by my friend Betty Clark reminds me:  “Who you are is God’s gift to you!”  It is a good reminder.  Our God is a gracious and good Giver.  He gives us life and gives it abundantly.

Samson’s life was a gift from God.  The angel of the Lord announced his birth to his parents.  Manoah and his wife sought wisdom so the angel returned.  Samson was to be a Nazirite, following specific rules setting him apart for God’s great purpose.  His parents made an offering to the Lord.   Every human life is a gift from God.  Robert Mulholland says a parent is sometimes surprised but God is not when a child is conceived and born.  Ephesians 1 says God purposed us into being before the foundation of the world.

Once the promised child arrived, God continued to work.  First he blessed Samson.  Then as he grew up the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him.  God found him in the Camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.  When did this happen to you?  God found me in Germany.  Even crossing an ocean could not keep God from stirring my soul in the city of Gross Gerau.  Who you are is God’s gift to you!
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for creating us in our mothers’ wombs.  We are fearfully and wonderfully made.  We praise you for finding us and stirring us, preparing us to do your work in the world.  By your Spirit, stir in us today until we rise up for your purpose in our lives.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
