Leviticus 8:7-9
He put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him. He also fastened the ephod with a decorative waistband, which he tied around him.   He placed the breastpiece on him and put the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece.   Then he placed the turban on Aaron’s head and set the gold plate, the sacred emblem, on the front of it, as the Lord commanded Moses.
New International Version (NIV)
As far as I know, my Grandfather Clarence Brooks had only two pairs of overalls.  He had his every day overalls and his Sunday overalls.  He grew up as part of a generation that wore their very best to church.

God prescribed a particular uniform for the High Priest Aaron.  They wrapped him in a robe, gave him the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece to discern God’s will and put a turban with a diadem on his head.  When Aaron wore those clothes, nobody mistook him for anybody else.  He had to be the High Priest.

Once at Camp Tallowood we reenacted the worship of the Temple and I was fitted with an outfit like Aaron’s.  Just putting it on gives one a sense of reverence and gravitas.  One of the pastors who grew up at Tallowood, Chad Bertrand compared the High Priestly garb to his basketball uniform in High School.  When he put on the uniform he knew he represented his school and his team so he wanted to do his best.

Some of my friends wear clerical collars to lead their congregations.  One young pastor is being fitted for vestments and ordination.  I am not advocating a particular uniform for church leaders.  When we enter to worship we are clothed in Christ’s righteousness.  Paul told the early Christians to put off the old garments of sin and put on the new garments of righteousness.  In view of all God has done, shouldn’t we give him our very best today?  We should!

Pray with me:
Father, thank you for clothing us in Christ.  Help us to see ourselves adorned in your grace today.  Let us represent you well in everything we do, everywhere we go.  For Christ we pray, Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
