Acts 25: 1-5
Three days after arriving in the province, Festus went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem, 2 where the chief priests and the Jewish leaders appeared before him and presented the charges against Paul. 3 They requested Festus, as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way. 4 Festus answered, “Paul is being held at Caesarea, and I myself am going there soon. 5 Let some of your leaders come with me, and if the man has done anything wrong, they can press charges against him there.”

New International Version (NIV)
Have you prayed for our leaders in government? How recently? Paul told Timothy to pray for those in authority. How shall we pray for them?

Felix kept Paul captive to do a favor for the Jewish authorities. When Festus replaced Felix, Paul may have seen a new opportunity to get out of captivity. But his opponents were still scheming to transfer Paul back to Jerusalem so they might assassinate the apostle. Stronger still, Paul and his friends were praying. Festus had the wisdom to keep Paul safe in Caesarea.

"More things are wrought through prayer than this world dreams of," wrote Tennyson. The Spirit convicts me today that I have not prayed as regularly and fervently for our leaders as I should have. All of our leaders need prayer. They make life and death decisions that affect our world every day. Whether we agree or disagree with our leaders, let us be vigilant and diligent in prayer today. Pray like the salvation of our city and country depend on our prayers.

Pray with me:
Lord Jesus, you sovereignly rule over the universe. You alone depose leaders and raise up new ones. We pray for our leaders today. Guide them so that we may continue to proclaim Christ, freely and boldly. We do not trust in chariots and horses but in the name of the Lord our God. All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down. We plead for new mercies to bring salvation to the lost today. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
