Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,
Earlier you should have received a message via our Emergency Alert system regarding a tornado warning that was in effect for Northwestern Shelby County. Additionally, a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the Memphis area.
The tornado warning has now been lifted however, severe thunderstorms are expected to continue for most of the day for eastern Arkansas, Northwestern Mississippi, and West Tennessee. Road conditions are likely to be treacherous. Remain alert for possible tornadoes as they can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado, go at once into a storm shelter or small central room in a sturdy structure.
Please exercise your judgment about traveling to and from campus. Students need to work with their respective faculty members regarding any class accommodations. Supervisors are encouraged to be considerate and accommodating of employees. Employees may take leave as needed and/or work remotely where practical and approved by the supervisor.
The Memphis campus remains open. We will continue to update the campus community of any material developments.
For the latest information, faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to visit the University website at uthsc.edu, and look for messages via UTHSC Alert, our emergency mass messaging system for campus closures.
Please take appropriate precautions and stay safe.
