Celebrating Melissa Turbuck

What do you imagine when you learn someone is a ‘Program Coordinator’? If you imagine someone who cares about and attends to the strengths, dreams, and needs of the Core Members; knows their home places and their extended families; mentors and supervises University of Regina practicum students; helps organize program content for the Astonished! Teaching and Learning Centre, the A! Social Club, What’s Your style Dance, and A! special events; supports A! Summer Literacy; helps develop PATH plans, including literacy skills; creates amazing photos that reflect the Astonished! community; and much more, then you have a glimpse of Melissa (Mel) Turbuck.
To celebrate Mel’s five years (and we hope many more) with Astonished! A! Executive Director, Bonnie Cummings-Vickaryous, and A! Student Researchers, Avery Ottenbreit and Rebekah Lindenbach, organized a surprise party for Mel on November 15, 2024. There were over 30 guests and no one spilled the beans. Mel was truly surprised. It was a wonderful celebration.

"Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Big Sky Centre for Learning and Being Astonished! Funds
It is with immense gratitude that we celebrate your initiative to begin the Big Sky Centre for Learning and Being Astonished! Funds.
We have had the pleasure of working with you in several capacities, and having the opportunity to be your partner in building a sustainable future for Astonished! is among our favourites. With a current Fund balance of $85,212.08 in the Legacy (Endowed Fund) and $29,931.27 in the Flow-Through (Non-Endowed Fund), the Funds are stronger than ever and are just getting started in being able to provide your worthy organization with reliable annual funding.
In 2024, we commemorate 26 Funds that have 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 35-year anniversaries. In celebrating all the unique stories of people with their own personal and compelling reasons to partner with the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation, I am astounded by their collective impact. Together these Funds have a combined granting history of nearly a million dollars made over 470 grants, to 43 charities, and to 62 scholarship recipients.
Thank you for your ten years of trust and partnership, and for the gift of being part of celebrating the building of a sustainable future for your organization.
With gratitude,
Donna Ziegler
Executive Director

The committee acknowledged that your program responds to a great need in community and aligns strongly to the City’s social development priorities.”
