Kansas DEI/CRT Legislation
Kansas's new state budget proviso, House Bill 2513, directs universities to ensure students aren't required to complete courses containing certain DEI-CRT-related content as degree requirements (with limited exceptions) and tasks KBOR with formally defining that content. No action is needed from instructors right now, but as implementation guidance continues to develop, we want to keep you informed on the current context and current expectations. For more detailed information, please refer to the Provost’s email sent Tuesday, July 28, “What Instructors Need to Know about New Kansas DEI/CRT Legislation.”
A team of faculty and administrators, including College faculty, developed language for optional inclusion in syllabi that frames course content as a subject of scholarly, historical, or legal study.

This course examines complex and sometimes contested issues through evidence, scholarship, and critical analysis. Students are not expected to adopt a particular viewpoint and are encouraged to engage thoughtfully with multiple perspectives.

This course will address complex and sometimes contested issues, including topics related to race, gender and sexuality, law, history, and society. Our goal is to examine these topics through evidence, scholarship, and critical analysis. You are not expected to agree with a particular perspective, but you are expected to engage thoughtfully and respectfully with the material and with one another.

Any decision to add a syllabus statement or include a course discussion explaining materials are used for scholarly analysis and critical examination, and that students are evaluated based on the quality of their reasoning and use of evidence, remains at the discretion of the instructor.
Faculty and instructors are encouraged to contact the Dean’s Office with questions.

Undergraduate Degree Certification
Degree certification for undergraduates will commence on August 4 and continue until August 14. College Degree Analysts may have questions regarding a student applicant's major, minor, or certificate requirements that require a departmental response. We kindly ask that a departmental contact be available during degree certification, as we may call upon the point of contact to approve an exception or other issue.

Reminder: Complete Annual Recruitment & Outreach Survey by 8/12
As we start the Fall 2027 application cycle, the College Recruitment & Outreach team has launched an annual survey to ensure we are sharing the most accurate and up-to-date information on your department with prospective students. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. We ask that you submit a survey for your department by August 12.

Sabbatical Leave
Completed sabbatical applications, including unit-level review, are due to the Dean's Office by 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Tuesday, September 1.
Please ensure that all materials are finalized and submitted to classab@ku.edu no later than that time, as we are unable to accept late submissions.

GTA Professional Development Training Opportunity
The University Core Curriculum Committee (UCCC) invites GTAs who will teach or support KU Core 34 courses during the 2026-2027 academic year to participate in a synchronous online training session before the fall semester. Participation is strongly recommended for first-semester GTAs teaching a KU Core 34 course and for experienced GTAs teaching a KU Core 34 course for the first time.

College Carnival
The annual College Carnival held on Academic Sunday will be August 23. This event is open to all students and will include games, prizes, food, and fun! Many College departments will be in attendance to share information on their academic programs and involvement opportunities. Over 500 students attended last year! The College Carnival will be held in Wescoe on the 4th floor, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Volunteers needed for Jayhawks Give a Flock
On Sunday, August 16, and Saturday, August 22, volunteers will train all incoming first year students with the skills to be empowered and informed bystanders. Jayhawks Give a Flock provides students with the opportunity to shape campus culture, support their peers, and take an active role in preventing sexual violence at KU.

KU's annual open house event for prospective students is drawing near! This year's event will be held on Friday, October 16. Details on the College's programming and a call to participate will be sent out in early September.
