Move-Out Reminders, Dining Hours, and Patriot Packout
Good morning Patriots,
We hope you had a great weekend and staying dry today!

End of Semester Move Out


The residence halls will close at 5:00 pm on May 8 to all students who are not graduating, assisting with graduation exercises, or do not have a summer housing assignment beginning in May.
Please note that we will not be offering an extended stay period for residents who do not fit into one of the above categories. Residents who do not fit into one of the noted categories should make arrangements to check out of the residence halls and depart campus by 5:00 pm on May 8.
Residents who are graduating will be automatically be added to the extended stay roster. Students who are assisting with graduation will need to have their supervisor or coordinating unit e-mail a roster with your name and G# to be added to the extended stay roster.
Important Move-Out FYIS
Green bins will be available at both the Eisenhower and Piedmont Desks. Please note that there may be a wait for bins as we move closer to May 8. We recommend students make plans to begin packing and moving out items prior to their planned move-out day.
Temporary loading passes and additional move-out information can be found here. Temporary loading passes are good for April 27-May 12. Neither residents nor their guests should park in any reserved spaces or fire lanes when loading their belongings. This includes the fire lanes within Presidents Park, close to Commonwealth/Dominion Halls, within University Commons, and along Chesapeake River Lane.

To complete the check-out process:
*Remove all trash and personal belongings
*Return furniture to its original configuration (how you found the room at move-in)- *Wipe down all surfaces

*Complete the Express Check-Out form in the Housing Portal. Failure to complete the express check-out for will result in a fee charged to your student account.

If you are graduating:

Residents who are participating in the main university commencement ceremony and/or their degree celebration ceremony must complete the move-out process according to the chart below.  Residents must have applied for and have been approved for graduation to be granted an extended stay throughout the university's commencement period. Graduating students will receive a confirmation e-mail noting they have been approved for an extended stay according to the chart below. Please note that we are not able to grant any additional extended stay after the provided day/time.

If you are living on campus for the summer: 

Residents who are staying in summer intern housing beginning on May 28 or will be in summer housing for Sessions 1, A, D, or E will be automatically added to the extended stay housing roster and will be granted the ability to move from their spring space to their summer housing assignment free of charge.
Session B residents and residents moving into summer intern housing can request an extended stay by e-mailing housing@gmu.edu. There is a fee of $450 that will cover the cost of extended stay housing between May 8-26th.
Residents who participte in extended stay housing can anticipate moving to their summer housing space between May 8-12. All moves must be completed within 24-hours of receiving their move-in notification.

If you have a makeup exam scheduled for after Noon on May 8: 

Please e-mail housing@gmu.edu by April 29 with a copy of your syllabus and/or communication from your professor noting the exam is scheduled for May 8. If your exam is scheduled before Noon on May 8, you will need to check out by 5:00 pm on the same day. Residents with a makeup exam scheduled for after Noon on May 8 will need to check out by 9:00 am on May 9.

Looking for summer storage?

The UPS store in Merten Hall is a convenient and easy summer storage option for residential students.
For a flat rate of $300, students will receive:
  • Packing supplies (up to 5 boxes and tape).
  • Ability to drop off packed items for storage at a location close to your residence hall.
  • Storage for up to 5 boxes or 4 boxes and a fridge or bike. If storing 5 boxes, then bikes and fridges are $30 extra each.
  • Stored items will be placed in your room for Fall 24 move-in. Students also have option of contacting the UPS store to make alternative arrangements for picking up their belongings.
Students interested in storing their belongings with UPS can click here or visit gmustudentstorage.com. The UPS store at Merten Hall can also assist with storing items for the fall and/or spring semesters at an additional rate for students who may be studying abroad. Students who reserve their storage space before April 15 will receive a 20% discount.

Patriot Packout

George Mason University’s annual sustainable move-out initiative, Patriot Packout (PPO), is scheduled from April 15 – May 10! Donate your gently used and like-new items at the green donation bins inside residence hall lobbies or at one of the many outdoor donation locations. PPO 2024 donations support the Patriot Pantry, Trans Clothing Closet, Art Supply Sharing Closet, the First Gen+ Center, and Mason Parking and Transportation’s bike and scooter programs, among others.
