National Cancer Institute Releases New Social Determinants of Health Data Set
The Healthcare Delivery Research Program of the National Cancer Institute has released a new Social Determinants of Health data set. The data set includes select social determinants of health data elements, including race/ethnicity, education, poverty, urban/rural, socioeconomic status, and racial residential segregation indices defined using 2008-2012 American Community Survey data and 2010 definitions of rural urban commuting areas at the census tract level. Understanding and Addressing the Impact of Structural Racism and Discrimination on Minority Health and Health Disparities (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) This initiative will support (1) observational research to understand the role of structural racism and discrimination (SRD) in causing and sustaining health disparities, and (2) intervention research that addresses SRD in order to improve minority health or reduce health disparities. Comprehensive Care for Adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus from Populations with Health Disparities (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) This Funding Opportunity Announcement will support research focused on developing and testing multi-level or multi-component strategies of comprehensive clinical care for individuals with Type 2 diabetes from populations with health disparities, including interventions that leverage medical and social care integration to screen for and address patient’s comprehensive diabetes care needs.
