DCPSGoesToCollege Website Launches!

We are pleased to announce the launch of the DCPSGoesToCollege Website. We invite you to browse the site and check out the following features.
  • Financial Aid Award Letter Calculator: Analyze and compare up to four financial aid award letters. The Calculator has prepopulated information (tuition, fees and estimated DCTAG award) for the most popular 80 colleges that DCPS students attend.
  • Resources and Toolkit: Find FAQs, interactive financial aid lessons plans, resources for undocumented students and resources for homeless and foster youth etc.
  • Scholarships: View scholarship packets - Scholarship awards over $10,000, Local scholarships for students with a 2.0 GPA.
  • Events: View upcoming college events and fair in the DC metro area.

      FAFSA Completion Shout-outs 

      October marked the start of the DC FAFSA Completion Initiative. DCPS is excited to participate and recognize our high schools working hard to boost FAFSA completion rates. Shout-outs to the following schools: Banneker (58%), Walls (27%), Dunbar (25%), and McKinley (19%).  All eligible students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.

      Presidential Scholars Award Nomination

      The Presidential Scholars Award recognizes and honors the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Nominators can be teachers or counselors with close knowledge of the student’s academic and leadership qualities. Nominated students should submit their information through the online form.

      Chosen finalists will each receive a Presidential Scholars Medallion during a special award ceremony here in Washington, DC. The award consists of two categories, the general component and the Career and Technical Education (CTE) component. For more information or questions, please contact Annie Chen at Annie.Chen@dc.gov.

       Apply for the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) 

      The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is seeking high-achieving student leaders interested in government, history and public service to participate in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). District of Columbia public, public charter and private high school juniors and seniors who are currently (2017-18 school year) serving in an elected or appointed position and possess a strong interest in government and history are encouraged to apply. Please be advised that each applicant must be approved by their principal or school counselor prior to the submission of their application. The USSYP application deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017.       National Scholarships

      • Swope, Rodante P.A. Scholarship for Philanthropic Efforts
        Closing Date: November 15, 2017
        Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.0
        Amount: $2,500
        Description: Open to students who are seeking an undergraduate within the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on how their field of study will positively impact the lives of people with a disability and a personal statement on how and why they choose to give back to the community.
      • Most Valuable Student Competition
        Closing Date: November 27, 2017
        Minimum GPA Requirement: N/A
        Amount: Up to $50,000
        Description: Open to high school seniors who are citizens of the United States. Applicant must submit completed application and materials online. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.
      • Wells Fargo Scholarship Program for People with Disabilities
        Closing Date: November 28, 2017
        Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.0
        Amount: $2,500
        Description: Open to students who have an identified disability and are high school seniors. Applicant must be enrolled at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States in the entire 2018-2019 academic year. Only the first 700 applications submitted will be considered.
      • Bachus & Schanker, LLC Scholarship
        Closing Date: November 30, 2017
        Amount: $2,000
        Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.0
        Description: Open to any high school senior accepted to attend a four-year university or students currently enrolled at a four-year university in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to the 7th Amendment (Right to a jury).
      • Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program
        Closing Date: November 30, 2017
        Amount: $1,000
        Minimum GPA Requirement: 2.8
        Description: Open to full-time high school seniors currently enrolled at a high school in a community serviced or approved by Comcast. Applicant must demonstrate leadership in school activities or work experiences. The program is a nomination-based award, and only one student per school may be nominated by their principal or guidance counselor. Click here for information on the nomination process. 
      • Soft Surroundings Scholarship
        Closing Date: November 30, 2017
        Amount: $1,000
        Minimum GPA Requirement: N/A
        Description: Open to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in fashion design, merchandising, visual presentation, or fashion marketing. Applicant must submit an essay on who inspired them to pursue this field of study.
      • Capital Alliance College Scholarship
        Closing Date: December 1, 2017
        Amount: $1,000
        Minimum GPA Requirement: N/A
        Description: Open to graduating high school seniors and current college students in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on what impact the scholarship will have on their education.
      • Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
        Closing Date: December 1, 2017
        Amount: $1,000
        Minimum GPA Requirement: N/A
        Description: Open to high school seniors and current college students. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to social media and civil rights.
      • National Space Club Keynote Scholarship
        Closing Date: December 1, 2017
        Amount: $10,000
        Minimum GPA Requirement: N/A
        Description: Open to high school seniors with plans to pursue a career in the science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
      • Science Ambassador Scholarship
        Closing Date:  December 11
        Amount: Full-tuition
        Minimum GPA Requirement: N/A
        Description: Open to female high school seniors seeking an undergraduate degree in science, engineering, or math. There is no citizenship requirement. Applicant must submit a three-minute video to explain a topic in science they are passionate about.
      • LEDA Scholars Program
        Closing Date: December 12
        Amount: N/A
        GPA requirement: 3.6
        Description: Open to high school juniors. This is a FREE seven-week summer program at Princeton serving economically disadvantaged high school students. LEDA provides students with leadership training, academic writing instruction, standardized test preparation, college guidance, and community building.
      • AXA Achievement Scholarship
        Closing Date: December 15, 2017
        Amount: Up to $25,000
        Minimum GPA Requirement: N/A
        Description: Open to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted.
      • Burger King Scholars Program
        Closing Date: December 15, 2017
        Amount: Up to $50,000
        Minimum GPA Requirement: 2.5
        Description: Open to graduating high school seniors who live in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico. Applicant must plan to enroll full-time, without interruption, for the entire 2018-19 academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school.
      • Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program
        Closing Date: December 15, 2017
        Amount: $20,000
        Closing Date: December 15, 2017
        Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.0
        Description: Open to U.S. students who are currently involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community-based sports. Applicant must be entering college in fall 2018 as a freshman at a four-year school for an undergraduate degree.
