This Just IN!

June 2023 Edition
It's finally Summer! We are so proud of how hard students worked over the last school year, and we hope everyone is able to have a restful, relaxing, and rejuvenating break.  Here at IN!, we continue to be inspired by, invested in, and inclusive of students with intellectual disabilities and their college dreams!

Student Stories: Current and Former Students Participate in Panel

5 students sit in chairs at the front of a conference room. They smile for the photo.
On Monday, June 12, we had the chance to present at the Transition Leadership Institute, a multi-day conference for Colorado's special education transition teachers. We asked students from all 4 inclusive programs in Colorado to join us to share their personal experiences -- triumphs and challenges -- with inclusive higher education. Here are just a few quotes from our amazing panelists:
"In the first year of college, it was kind of hard for me, but now I learned that it's okay to have some challenges, but ... you learn that it's okay to be independent and it's important to be independent.” - Maggie, UNC GOAL student
“Independence means to me just doing it on your own.” - Kaitlin, OIS at UCCS graduate
“I made a lot of new friends in my dorm. ... They included me as one of them, not just as someone different.” -Jen, GLOBAL at Regis student
“Being part of Elevate really helped me ... feel like I had a niche, a social niche.” - Kacie, Elevate at ACC graduate
“I went to the writing center and the tutoring center. That helped me positively because I passed all my classes.” - Jazmine, Elevate at ACC graduate
The students had so many profound nuggets of wisdom to share, and it was hard to choose just one quote from each of them! To hear more about their experiences,  you can watch the whole panel interview at this link.

Happy Pride Month!

There are white, pink, blue, brownm, and black triangular shapes going from left to right next to the yellow triangle. The right side of the flag features red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple horizontal stripes.
Here at IN!, we strive to be inclusive of everyone, because we believe inclusion is powerful in all its forms! This month we recognize and honor the many intersectionalities of people within our disability community and in particular those that identify with the LGBTQ+ community. We want to wish a very happy pride month to all who celebrate on behalf of themselves and/or a loved one.
