On Monday, June 12, we had the chance to present at the Transition Leadership Institute, a multi-day conference for Colorado's special education transition teachers. We asked students from all 4 inclusive programs in Colorado to join us to share their personal experiences -- triumphs and challenges -- with inclusive higher education. Here are just a few quotes from our amazing panelists:
"In the first year of college, it was kind of hard for me, but now I learned that it's okay to have some challenges, but ... you learn that it's okay to be independent and it's important to be independent.” - Maggie, UNC GOAL student
“Independence means to me just doing it on your own.” - Kaitlin, OIS at UCCS graduate
“I made a lot of new friends in my dorm. ... They included me as one of them, not just as someone different.” -Jen, GLOBAL at Regis student
“Being part of Elevate really helped me ... feel like I had a niche, a social niche.” - Kacie, Elevate at ACC graduate
“I went to the writing center and the tutoring center. That helped me positively because I passed all my classes.” - Jazmine, Elevate at ACC graduate
