Alumni Awards
The College of Business Annual Alumni and Service Awards are a means to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of alumni and to acknowledge extraordinary service in support of the college and its mission. In a 50th anniversary celebration of past and current award winners on Oct. 16, the college honored John C. Terrell (’08 EMBA), Outstanding Career Achievement, Kathy Weaver (’14 EMBA), Outstanding Early Career Achievement and Eric V. Brown, Extraordinary Service.

UTA's College of Business held its own Shark Tank the night Daymond John from the popular television show spoke on campus. Students had three minutes to impress three judges.

The Entrepreneur Society at UTA presented a business plan pitch competition Nov. 11 sponsored by Frost Bank, where students were awarded cash prizes for the best business plans. First place went to Aero Blaze by Andrew Feghali, second place went to SafTacMag by Matt Harding, and third place went to Feed Me by Lynee Brittney Hall, Natashia Cooper, Kanooz Coli, and Vihitha Kanumuru.

Marketing Faculty Promoted to Tenure
Two College of Business marketing professors were promoted from assistant professor to associate professor with tenure Ritesh Saini and Adwait Khare are among 25 UTA faculty who received promotions.
AACSB Names 100 Influential Leaders
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the accrediting organization chose 100 alumni leaders from member institutions who personify the role of a visionary figure or change agent. Two UT Arlington College of Business alumni, John Goolsby (’64 B.B.A.) and Gen. Tommy Franks (U.S. Army, ret.) (’71 B.B.A.), were selected. 
Alumnus Creates Scholarship
Jimmy Campbell, College of Business alumnus and banking executive, wanted to help two big influences in his life -- The University of Texas at Arlington and Cleburne High School -- so he donated money to establish an endowed scholarship fund at UTA.
Business Tutoring Center Now Open
College of Business students can receive tutoring in a variety of subjects, including accounting, economics, finance, information systems, marketing and statistics. The newly revamped space in Room 136 of the Business Building can accommodate multiple tutoring sessions simultaneously. 
New Coffee, Bake Sale Area Now Open
The College of Business moved the bake sale area into the newly renovated coffee and bake sale area on the first floor of the building. Business student groups are now hosting week-long bake sales to raise funds for their organizations. Students are serving a variety of beverages and snacks, including coffee/espresso, baked goods, and sandwiches.

  • Yahoo! Finance, EIN.com and various other media outlets reported alumnus Mekonnen "Mack" Asrat has been named Senior Vice President and CFO of SGI, a global leader in high performance solutions for computers, data analytics and data management. Asrat earned a Master of Professional Accounting degree from UTA. 
  • Alumnus Michael Valentine (’86 B.B.A.), senior vice president, worldwide sales at Sophos, was named one of the Top Midmarket IT Vendor Executives by The Channel Company
  • Wilmington Trust has expanded its Global Capital Markets Structured Finance Group with new hires to include UT Arlington alumnus Steve O’Neal. O’Neal received a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from UT Arlington. 
  • The New York Times interviewed Teresa L. White (’88 B.B.A.), president for United States operations of the insurance company Aflac, about her workspace. She keeps a collection of elephant sculptures and photos, a symbol of good luck for members of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. White was a member while a business administration student at UT Arlington.
  • UT Arlington business alumna Susan Anderson (’91 Ph.D.) is set to receive the 2015 American Taxation Association/Deloitte Teaching Innovation Award, Elon University reported. The award is presented annually to tax professors whose innovative teaching techniques encourage critical thinking and enhance the overall learning experience.

  • A research study shows why many people stop cognitive behavioral therapy before the end of the recommended course of treatment, Disabled-World.com reported. Adwait Khare, associate professor of marketing at The University of Texas at Arlington, was one of the co-authors.
  • Cybersecurity experts, Jingguo Wang, UTA information systems and operations management professor, and H. Raghav Rao, a management science and systems professor at SUNY-Buffalo, have concluded the first phase of research around insider threat protection under an almost $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, FierceGovernmentIT.com reported. 
  • Research by Deepak Datta, UTA management professor and the Eunice and James L. West Chair of Private Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, was mentioned in a Mundo Ejecutivo article exploring whether layoffs are the right solution during a financial crisis.
  • KDFW/Fox 4 interviewed James Campbell Quick, a distinguished professor of leadership and organizational behavior in the UT Arlington College of Business, about the shooting of two Virginia television journalists by their former colleague. 
  • Lawrence Chonko, the Thomas McMahon Professor in Business Ethics in the UT Arlington College of Business, was among a panel of business professors interviewed on Dallas NPR affiliate, KERA 90.1 FM, for the program, “Think with Krys Boyd.”  
  • Infórmate DFW Magazine, Diario La Estrella, and  WFAA Channel 8reported on Ford “Mujeres Legendarias” ceremony, which recognizes “Legendary Women” in North Texas who embody the four pillars of the Ford brand: intelligence, efficiency, ecology and safety. Liliana Perez-Nordtvedt, UT Arlington associate professor of marketing, was among this year’s honorees.
