Governor Brown Announces Statewide Outdoor Mask Requirement

Yesterday, Governor Kate Brown announced new statewide outdoor mask requirements to help stop the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant. Effective Friday, August 27, masks will be required in most public outdoor settings, including large outdoor events, where physical distancing is not possible, and regardless of vaccination status. The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) also strongly recommends masking for outdoor gatherings at private residences when individuals from different households do not consistently maintain physical distance.
The outdoor mask requirement will go into effect this Friday, August 27, however Oregonians are strongly encouraged to immediately start wearing masks outdoors, as outlined in the news release. The video announcement is available here

Free Tips & Training to Avoid Mask Confrontations

Providing good service and enforcing mask wearing can be challenging. The Oregon Hospitality Foundation is offering complimentary access, thanks to a generous sponsorship from Anheuser-Busch, to an online video segment about mask compliance. The short video provides tips to keep customer interactions calm and avoid confrontations when you encounter resistance to mask wearing. This training segment is open to anyone in Oregon who works at an organization that holds a liquor license. Access will be available Friday, Aug. 27 through Sept. 30.

Free Workshops for Restaurant and Bar Employees and Owners

During the Tourism Stakeholder Engagement Sessions this past spring, we heard that technical assistance and workforce training opportunities were some of the top tourism-related priorities needed in helping assist Oregon communities in rebuilding the economy. To support this need, Travel Oregon has partnered with the Independent Restaurant Alliance of Oregon (IRAO) to help make education on topics ranging from diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace to financial fundamentals for both restaurant and bar employees and employers affordable and accessible. An IRAO workshop series focusing on these topics kicked off in July and runs through October. Find more details and register for an upcoming workshop.

Visitor Profile Study RFP Closes Sept. 6

Travel Oregon is seeking a strategic partner to develop and implement a Visitor Profile Study to inform our destination development and marketing strategies based on visitors’ travel preferences, motivations and experiences. We are planning to conduct a quarterly study to understand the profile of domestic overnight and day visitors for Oregon and its tourism regions. This study will establish benchmarks for a range of metrics including past, current, and future Oregon visitors’ characteristics, perceptions and behavior. View previous statewide visitor profile studies here and the regional studies here. Our goal is to conduct the study this fall on a quarterly basis to establish seasonal trends for visitor profile and personas by Oregon tourism regions and statewide.
