for an afternoon of live jazz...
Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m.
at the Dietrich Theater
Accomplished vocalist Dennis Jeter, from the Poconos, will bring Ned Washington’s lyrics to life, backed up by Joseph Lepore on bass, Luca Santaniello on drums, and Joe Cohn on guitar. Guided by Dr. Philip Mosley, audience members will be able to trace Washinton's life in songwriting and explore patterns of American popular music.
Ned Washington wrote song lyrics for Tin Pan Alley, Broadway, movies, and television. Among those that have become standards in the Great American Songbook, and which have lent themselves wonderfully to jazz arrangements, are "The Nearness Of You", "My Foolish Heart", "Stella By Starlight", "(I Don't Stand) A Ghost Of A Chance", and "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You". Among his memorable contributions to cinema are to Disney for "When You Wish Upon A Star" from "Pinocchio" and "Baby Mine" from "Dumbo", and to famed Westerns such as "High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me)" and "The Man From Laramie". Washington also penned the theme song for one of television's best loved series, "Rawhide".
Tickets will be available at the door. Please call the Dietrich at 570-996-1500 for details.
