Cottage Theatre News

From the Executive Director

Dear Cottage Theatre family,

Tonight was supposed to be the opening of Mamma Mia. Normally our building is abuzz with energy on opening day: the phones are ringing with last-minute ticket inquiries, The Flower Basket is delivering their beautiful arrangements for our lobby, and volunteers are plating food for our opening night reception. Today, though, it's just me by myself in the building. So I'm going to put on ABBA's "Dancing Queen" and do a little dance on stage in honor of our postponed show. Join me at home if you wish. Dancing is a great spirit booster — and don't we all need one of those right now?!

While we wait to get back to the theatre-making that we love, we'll share the next in our "CT's Top Ten Shows" countdown. I hope these memories of past shows will put a smile on your face as we all stay at home and wait for the time when we can celebrate being together again.

Be well . . . and spread kindness!

What's happening (virtually) at CT right now

Even though our doors are temporarily locked, the business of show business continues. Here's what's happening right right now:

  • I'm working with theatre colleagues across the country to figure out what new cleaning and disinfection protocols we will need to put in place to ensure our patrons' and volunteers' safety once we reopen.
  • The CT Board and I are researching and pursuing all available temporary relief funding to help CT weather this sudden loss of ticket income with as few "bumps and bruises" as possible.
  • We are polishing our "crystal ball" and engaging in a lot of scenario planning as we consider a variety of possible future schedules once it is safe for us to resume operations.
How you can help CT weather this crisis

Like every performing arts organization, Cottage Theatre faces some significant financial challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have already taken steps to cut as many ongoing operating costs as possible during this crisis, but some core expenses like utilities and insurance continue.

If you are in a position to contribute a little bit to help ensure that CT maintains its footing for the future, we  and your future fellow audience members —will be very grateful. And if you can't send money, send us some love, by sharing one of your favorite Cottage Theatre memories! We want to hear from you.
