It's hard to believe we are already 2 weeks into 2020, but here we are! If you're looking for ways to make good on your New Year's resolution, look no further. We've got some great volunteer opportunities lined up, in fact so many I'll get right into it before this email gets any longer!

Raptor and Education Center

Community Work Party

  

Saturday, January 18th, 9am-noon  
Come roll up your sleeves to improve the grounds while enjoying the company of our beloved education hawks, kites, owls and vulture. Tasks will include invasive plant removal, garden tending in our butterfly garden, moving soil and some light carpentry work. We can still use a few more volunteers, so if you've got the time please join us!

Bird Friendly Communities Organizer

Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary Natives Nursery

A unique opportunity if you're looking for a meaningful project to contribute your time and talents to this spring. We're looking for a dedicated and organized volunteer who can help plan and execute our spring plant sales, which are important fundraising events. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from our conservation specialist and our natives nursery volunteer crew.

Education Program Assistants

Volunteers supporting the education team are needed to help sign in participants, set up and clean up activities and staff activity stations.

Birdathon Committee

Sanctuary Work Parties 


We're going strong with our work parties to make sure our best loved sanctuaries are in tip top shape for spring migration. These volunteer events are a great chance to help out while getting to know new friends. Click on the name of each sanctuary to learn more and sign up.

Spring Migration Kiosk Volunteers

High Island: Boy Scout Woods and Smith Oaks 
mid-March through mid-May 
Join one of our most dedicated volunteer teams in creating an amazing experience for visitors descending upon this birding hotspot. Responsibilities of kiosk volunteers include collecting admission fees, informing visitors of recent bird sightings, selling merchandise in support of Houston Audubon, and reminding folks of sanctuary rules as needed.

Can you identify most of the birds you see? Do you enjoy sharing your love of birding with others? Come lead Bird Tours on our High Island Sanctuaries during the spring and fall migrations.

Stay with us for a season at our High Island Coastal Operations Center in exchange for 20 hours of service per week. Volunteers will conduct multiple tasks at our bird sanctuaries in the area. Get on the list now to reserve your space!

Save the Date: Volunteer Appreciation Picnic

Our annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic and Laura Singleton Exceptional Volunteer Award Presentation will be happening at the Edith L. Moore Log Cabin on Saturday, Feb, 29th. Invitations will be sent to volunteers who have been active recently, so look for that in your inbox!
