Congratulations to the Oberlin Musicians for their Carnegie Hall Performance on December 2nd

Nearly 200 student musicians from Oberlin College and Conservatory presented a performance of works spanning three centuries in magnificent Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. The private gala was held for the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations. See pictures from the performance on Oberlin's Flickr page.

Oberlin Welcomes the Holidays

The city of Oberlin and Oberlin College united in early December for "Walkin' in a Winter Oberlin," a celebration of the season featuring a holiday lights parade, tree-lighting ceremony, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice sculptures, activities sponsored by downtown businesses, and more.

Grow your Career Network and Be a Resource for Fellow Obies

Oberlin's Office of Career Exploration and Development and Office of Alumni Engagement are excited to announce the launch of OberLink, the new career access and networking platform that will make it easier for Obies to connect with each other. OberLink easily facilitates career exploration, navigation, and development, whether it's through advice, job tips, or introductions to people who might offer job opportunities to alumni and students alike. OberLink replaces the Wisr platform, which will be inactive beginning December 31. Click here to learn more and to join the platform today!

Limmie Lulliam '98 with Oberlin Orchestra

Join us in New York City!

Oberlin ensembles travel to New York City in January for a performance by the Oberlin Orchestra and conservatory choral ensembles at Carnegie Hall, plus two sets by the Oberlin Sonny Rollins Jazz Ensemble at Dizzy's Club and a panel discussion on the life and legacy of one of Oberlin's most distinguished, often-overlooked alums. Fall Opera

Composer Gioachino Rossini's burletta L'occasione fa il ladro ("Opportunity Makes a Thief") and Jacques Offenbach's Le mariage aux lanternes ("The Wedding by Lantern Light") made their Oberlin Opera Theater debut in Hall Auditorium in November. Both one-act operas were double cast with Oberlin Conservatory vocal performance students and accompanied by a full orchestra. Faculty News

Director of Entrepreneurship and Instructor of Business Ted Evans was recently featured on the Twist of Fate podcast to promote Oberlin’s Entrepreneurial programming, bootcamp, and pitch competition.
Professor of Economics Ron Cheung made his Jeopardy debut on December 7, 2022. In a stroke of Oberlin fate, he competed against A.Z. Madonna ’15 on December 8, 2022.
Assistant Professor of Philosophy Amy Berg was interviewed by a journalist at the magazine 1843 (a sister publication of The Economist) about the recent implosion of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange and the resulting fallout for the effective altruism movement.
Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Shuming Chen has recently published an article in ACS Catalysis, "Visible Light-Mediated, Diastereoselective Epimerization of Morpholines and Piperazines to More Stable Isomers." Co-authors include Elizabeth Rigby ’22 and collaborators from Yale University.
Assistant Professor of Creative Writing Chanda Feldman read as part of the WBUR and CitySpace hybrid celebration of 50 years of AGNI literary journal on Friday, November 4, 2022. Additionally, Chanda Feldman has published two new poems, "For the picnic in the sculpture garden" and "Shuk", in AGNI Issue 96.
Professor Stiliana Milkova’s book of short fiction written in Italian Storia delle prime volte (Voland 2022) was reviewed in the major Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera. The reviewer compared Professor Milkova’s literary style to that of Italo Calvino.
Associate Professor of Physics & Astronomy Jillian Scudder’s book, Astroquizzical: The Illustrated Edition (MIT Press & Icon Books) has been named as one of four finalists for the 2023 AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books in the Young Adult Science Book category.
Professor of Hispanic Studies Sebastiaan Faber has published a short book about Spain’s international image, Leyendas negras, marcas blancas. La malsana obsesión con la imagen de España en el mundo, in a series edited by the magazine Contexto.
Assistant Professor of Sociology Alicia Smith-Tran published an article in the Journal of Autoethnography titled, "Expecting in Unexpected Times: Navigating a Pandemic Pregnancy."
