Come Together

There's a good chance you feel pretty scattered right now, pulled in a thousand directions as final performances fill the schedule on top of the extra burden of last assignments and exam stress. Perhaps your mind is on all the scattering that will happen as students say goodbye to teachers, schools, and even their home communities as graduation looms. The summer months in church planting often have to dance around the waves of summer activities and travel plans. To put it simply, we're all over the place.

It's all the more worth it then to think about what holds us together. Sunday night our youth discussed Scripture's calls to unity, love, and sharing each other's burdens in the unique ways God has equipped them. The night ended with a contemplative prayer experience as they had a chance to consider what they can offer others as well as the places where they need help. This kind of openess is incredibly brave and deserves to be encouraged. I hope that we can all, as opportunity presents itself, encourage our students onward to sharing with their community and that we, too, can lean into this approach to life. Our next steps as a youth ministry, a church, and the people of God hinge on our ability to do this. This won't happen by accident or without intentionality, but such choices lead to even brighter days in front of us than the ones we've enjoyed so far!

Dates to Know

May 7: Baccalaureate Sunday. It's time for our annual recognition of graduates; we'll be celebrating with a brunch during the Sunday School hour followed by a special service at which Geoff will be preaching.

May 10: Finals Homework night, 5:30-7:30. It's our last homework night of the year, with the added bonus of pancakes as our students get ready for finals! Note: we need volunteers for this event.

May 21: Parent/Guardian and Youth Volleyball Night, 5:30-7:30pm. Our annual close to the school year will be held at Liberty Park, and a meal will be provided.

Last week of May: Summer schedule mailer going out for all PHUMC events; keep an eye on your mailboxes and social media accounts as we gear up to announce youth fundraising, kids activities, family events, and, of course, lots of sommer youth opportunities!

Panama City 2023!

As we announced last semester we're headed back to Panama City, and now it's time to get signed up! Registration is $380; a $50 deposit secures your spot and you're welcome to make as many payments as you need to between now and then (Click here to register via our online giving system). As always, please do not let money be the reason anyone misses out; reach out to Geoff and we will do what we have to in order to make it happen.

With the money conversation handled, here's the fun details:
•The trip is set for July 2-7; this year we're adding a stopover on the way to break up the long ride down.
•We're staying at Cottages Christian Retreat like last year. It's a great facility with a lot of amenities directly across the street from beach access.
•This year's trip will include some chances for our rising middle schoolers (completed 6th-7th at the time of the trip) to experience important spiritual formation as they enter their teenage years while our rising high schoolers (completed 8th and up) build on last year's service opportunities. Plus plenty of chances for our entire group to grow, learn, and make memories together!
•We're so excited about making new memories with last year's attendees along with lots of new faces! Reminder: if you're student is in the youth group, they now qualify for our summer trips!
