PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Thank you to all who attended Back to School Night.  We're off to a great start!

CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL ADMISSIONS

All 2020-2021 promotional materials are to be disseminated electronically due to the pandemic.  Please follow this link for the 2020-2021 Catholic High School Directory and testing information.
COLDER WEATHER REMINDER
Please note that even though the weather is getting colder OLV will be keeping the windows open as much as possible - ventilation is key. We encourage students to begin wearing OLV sweatpants and sweatshirts.  Please remember that students need to wear an OLV sweatshirt BEFORE another sweatshirt/fleece.

UPDATE ON DAILY SCREENING
As you may be aware, we started asking new screening questions at morning drop off.  The new screening questions are as follows:

1. Since last in school, have you had any of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell, fever of 100.4 or higher, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue and/or congestion or runny nose?

2. Since last in school, are you or anyone in your household waiting for a COVID-19 test result, been diagnosed with COVID-19 or been instructed by an employer, school, health care provider or the health department to isolate or quarantine?

3. In the last 14 days, have you or anyone in your household had close contact (within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes) with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 or suspected of having COVID-19 (i.e., tested due to symptoms)?

A friendly reminder that ALL students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian every morning as the parent/guardian is responsible for answering the screening questions.

EXTENDED DAY
OLV began offering extended day on a limited basis last week.  Please note that extended day is only being offered until 4:00pm to families who are already registered for full-time extended day.
Due to cohorting limitations, extended day will only be offered to students in grades PK3 through 5th.
The fee for full-time registered students will be $15 per student until 4:00pm; your October billing will be adjusted accordingly.
After dismissal, students will go outside to their designated class recess area in order to remain at least 30 ft away from any other group. Mask-wearing, social distancing and all our regular protocols will be maintained.

At 4pm, students will be dismissed to the parking lot, similar to our regular dismissal. Please refrain from socializing or any other delays at pick-up.

If there is inclement weather, students will remain in their classrooms, except 4th and 5th grade who will work quietly on homework in the Church remaining 30ft apart.
Students will be outside for pick-up at 4pm in the church parking lot unless it's raining heavily.  For pick up from the school building (if it's raining), please use the main office door.
Please send your child to school with an additional snack for aftercare.  Please also make a note of the extended day phone number: 202 669 8712.

LATE FOR DISMISSAL/DROP-IN FEE
Friendly reminder: school dismisses at 3:00pm
At 2:45 pm, students with cars waiting in the parking lot will begin to be dismissed to help support social distancing keeping students from different classes as separate as possible.
If your child is not collected at the 3 pm dismissal, he/she will be signed into extended day, and a $30 drop-in fee will apply.

FRIENDLY REMINDER: SCHOOL CLOSINGS & DELAYS
For weather/emergency related school closings or delays, OLV School will follow the decision of the Archdiocese of Washington as public schools are closed.
Please look for media announcements from the Archdiocese of Washington Schools in DC.

OLV GALA & AUCTION
The 2020 Annual Gala is Saturday, November 14th and we are looking forward to an amazing virtual event!
Please consider donating an item or creating a themed basket for the silent auction. You can also ask local restaurants and businesses to contribute a gift card, product, or service, or ask them to purchase an ad on the auction web site.
We are counting on your support! We are looking for silent auction items and volunteers to make this event a success and raise funds for the school community. Please use the Auction Donation Form here.
If you'd like to volunteer for the Gala Committee or donate auction items, please contact Philippa Bender (philippajbender@gmail.com) or Donna Snyder (donna.s.snyder@lmco.com).
INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS FOR ALL VIRTUAL STUDENTS
New this year: two ways to order (no later than September 25th).  Print this form and submit to school with your payment or pre-order online here with a credit card.
Students who are all virtual are invited to have their individual yearbook photos taken in person at OLV if they desire (this is not required).  Students will enter and exit directly from the Whitehaven entrance, wearing masks and practicing social distance.  Photos will be taken without masks.
Blue team all virtual students: Thursday, September 24th, 10:00am to 10:30am
White team all virtual students: Friday, September 25th, 10:00am to 10:30am.

SPEECH & LANGUAGE SCREENING: PK3, PreK-4 & KINDERGARTEN
Partners in Learning is offering screenings in Receptive/ Expressive Language and Articulation through OLV at a discounted rate of $30.  Screenings are great tools to help identify if your child's speech and language skills are age-appropriate or if there is an area of need.
The screenings are approximately 30 minutes long and will be held virtually on Monday mornings.
**At this time it is best to have these screenings virtually so that the SLP has better visualization of the student's articulators (tongue, lips, cheeks). Social- distanced screenings would lead to potential distortion of targets which may impact scoring and results. **
Please email to register (PiLAdmin@partnersinlearningllc.com).

ACADEMIC SUPPORT
