Welcome, and congratulations on joining us at American University! On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration, we cannot wait to have you join us in a few months.
Over the summer, you will be receiving a weekly newsletter email from the New Student and Family Programs Team with important updates on preparing to join us on campus in the Fall. Check your AU inbox frequently to be up-to-date on important dates and deadlines from the university.
Â
In this week's newsletter, we will outline important upcoming deadlines for your housing application, and share communications from First-Year Advising. You will also find helpful links to checklists and help services to help assist with the college transition.
Â
Once again, congratulations on becoming an Eagle, and if you have any questions, please reach out to us at eaglefamilies@american.edu.

Planning what to pack? Housing & Residence Life has you covered. We've posted an overview of what to bring, and what not to bring to the halls. We’re already getting lots of questions about sheets! American University mattresses are twin-sized mattresses that measure 80 inches in length. A very limited number of extra-long twins are available for those with demonstrated need. Our twin XL mattresses measure 84 inches long. Consider that you can always fold longer or larger sheets over mattress toppers. Find packing lists, floor plans, furniture measurements, loft options, fridge/microwave rentals, virtual room tours, and more on the Housing & Residence Life website.

You must register for classes to generate a bill, which will be posted to the student’s Eagle Service Account. Once registered, payment for the fall semester is due August 1. In order for families and other sponsors to view or pay the bill, your student must grant you proxy access. You’ll find a simple list of tuition and fees, instructions on how to view an itemized version of the student bill and payment options on the Student Accounts website.
