2018 Harvest Imminent! We will of course also be sharing photos and quick updates as harvest happens on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our quick thoughts, as of late August: we're looking at lighter yields than 2017, due to a combination of less rainfall and some crop loss from six weeks of very hot weather in July and early August. But the recent cool weather is ideal, and quality looks high. We'll see!

Two New Small-Production Releases

2016 MourvedreIf there’s one grape that says “autumn” to us, it’s Mourvèdre. So we were excited to get our newest vintage back in stock -- just in time for cooler weather -- after being out for several months. The 2016 Mourvèdre shows a nose of black currant, leather, game, bittersweet chocolate, and rose petals. On the mouth, it’s nicely balanced between sweet and savory, with plum skin, cocoa powder, leather, baking spices, and an appealing burst of acidity on the finish make it a beautiful companion for dinner with friends or a simple family meal.
Just 825 cases produced; $40/bottle ($32/bottle for VINsiders). Read more here or order online.

2017 ViognierWe're also happy to announce the release of our 2017 Viognier, our eighth bottling of the Rhone's best-known white grape. The 2017 Viognier shows a deep, Rhone-like nose of peach syrup, almond brittle, and crushed rock. On the palate, tangy apricot and cream soda flavors, rich texture, and a bright, pithy preserved lemon note on the finish, with the richness and sweet spice undercut by a welcome touch of citrus pith. It received a 92 point rating in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, who called it a "concentrated and intense wine, with lovely saline sensations".
Just 350 cases produced; limit 6 bottles per order; $35/bottle ($28/bottle for VINsiders). Read more here or order online.

What We're Reading: Why drink is the secret to humanity's successWe found the article Why drink is the secret to humanity's success in Financial Times fascinating. We've known for some time that life expectancy, health, and happiness are all correlated with moderate drinking. Why? It appears that the social aspect of this — how you drink, as much as how much — is critical, and that the friendships that result provide much of the health benefit. Cheers to that!
