Markleeville Creek Floodplain Restoration
It is so exciting to see the progress being made toward reconnecting Markleeville Creek with its floodplain. Here’s a shot from the last day of September alongside the project rendering from many years ago. Thank you to Alpine County staff and county engineer Lumos & Associates for shepherding this project, to Stantec for continuing to provide guidance on implementing their design, and to Meyers Earthwork for making this vision a reality. We are so grateful to Caltrans for providing implementation funding. We achieved a final design thanks to being a partner in the Tahoe-Sierra Region for the Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) program; IRWM funding for this project has been provided in full or in part from the Water Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 and through an agreement with the State Department of Water Resources.

Help Rank Values for West Fork Carson Planning Project
As AWG’s consultants Waterways and Watershed Resiliency Consulting continue work on the West Fork Carson Prioritization Plan, we are requesting input from stakeholders to rank various values that will be used by the consultants to prioritize the projects that they have identified. The goal of this planning project is to identify and prioritize projects that will improve water quality, fish habitat, meadow health, and stream function.

If you are interested in viewing an instructional slideshow explaining the prioritization process and then providing your input via an Excel spreadsheet, please contact Executive Director Kimra McAfee.

Stay tuned for a public meeting in late 2025 or early 2026 to learn about the project findings and review the proposed project list.

Bountiful Blooms and Views

American fly agaric
It's been a fantastic year for mushroom enthusiasts. Although not a blooming flower, this American fly agaric (Amanita muscaria ssp. flavivolvata) fruit is equally as stunning.
