NAR Launches "That's Who We R" Campaign

The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) recently released its new campaign “That’s Who We R”. For consumers, “That’s Who We R” educates them on the REALTOR difference and becomes an inherent call to action to work with a REALTOR, who abides by the Code of Ethics, practices advocacy, and is backed by the nation’s largest professional trade Association. This campaign demonstrates to consumers the value REALTORS bring to the real estate transaction and beyond – in their communities, in their understanding of local markets, and in their influence on public policies that encourage and facilitate real property transfer and ownership.

REALTORS are encouraged to use the “That’s Who Are R” logo and marketing materials on their advertising, business cards, social media channels or anywhere they want to showcase the expertise as a REALTOR! Learn more here.

What's New in Fair Housing?

A lot has happened since the Federal Fair Housing Act was passed in April 1968. As understanding grows, laws are created or amended to continue the commitment to equal housing opportunities for all. Recently, in Pennsylvania, the “Assistance and Service Animal Integrity Act”, was passed. This law is designed to address concerns over what constitutes an assistance or service animal. Also, an expanded definition of ‘sex’ as a protected class that will allow the Human Relations Commission to accept complaints based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

Summer Schedule Released for Required Membership Course: Ethics Over Instincts

Our sense of right or wrong and our tendency to do one thing over another thing is instinctive. Decision making is often navigated on auto-pilot. In most cases a REALTOR’S auto-pilot or instincts are aligned with the Code of Ethics. Ethics Over Instincts: Sharpening the Real Estate GPS (Suburban West's 2019-2020 Required Membership Training Course) will address common scenarios where instincts and ethics clash giving attendees an opportunity to adjust their practice as needed. The course objectives are to: (1) Raise awareness of unrecognized inherent conflicts of interest between agent and client (2) Demonstrate, compare, and contrast the differences in attitudes and behaviors needed to address these and (3) Identify best practices and tools available to make corrections and work professionally, legally & ethically.
The following dates are now available for registration:

Starbucks Morning: Preventing Elder Financial Exploitation

Seniors lose an estimated $36.48 billion per year to financial abuse, and Pennsylvania faces a greater challenge than most states because it has a rapidly aging population. In addition, recent statistics show that financial exploitation is now the number one reported abuse reported to the PA Department of Aging.
The upcoming Starbucks Morning: Preventing Elder Financial Exploitation (July 24th; 10:00am-11:30am) will help professionals, such as REALTORS who work with senior citizens and their families, learn how to recognize and report suspected elder financial exploitation. Click here to register (once logged in, scroll over "Events" then click on "Upcoming Meetings").

Tree Ordinance to be Considered in West Chester

West Chester Borough Council will consider a new tree ordinance that requires street tree replanting and offers cost-sharing for property owners who are required to remove a tree. Council is also mulling over requiring a permit to cut down “heritage trees,” which measure at least 24 inches in diameter. There are 50 to 100 “extraordinary” trees and 1,000 to 2,000 heritage trees among the 60,000 total trees in the borough. When the ordinance comes before council in July, the section concerning heritage trees on private property will likely be “reserved,” which means it will be considered at a later date because the council asked for significant changes. The rest of the ordinance will be considered for approval at the hearing in July.
