Michael Banbury
Although my wife Jill and I only moved to River Valley Ranch last August, we feel very much at home in this location. We have been visiting friends in the Roaring Fork Valley since 2007 and feel attached to the area. For us the community of River Valley Ranch and Carbondale provide the type of home environment that we cherish. RVR is a great place to live and the board is well organized with excellent documentation available to the community members. The community seems harmonious and well kept. As with any large community there are a number of different interests and ideas about key priorities for the future of the community. I believe that a successful board member should be able to communicate with residents, listen to their concerns and understand their priorities. They should synthesize that experience into forward-looking leadership that can adequately address the sentiments of the day as well as plan and adapt for the complexities of tomorrow.

Jill and I are both retired physicians with two adult sons who live out east. I am originally from Connecticut where I went to college and the University of Connecticut medical school. From there I did my general surgery training at Cornell Medical Center in New York City. We moved to Cleveland in 1995 where I did my cardiac surgery training at the Cleveland Clinic. Jill and I both worked at the Cleveland Clinic as attending surgeons for eight years after our training. I was recruited to be the chief of cardiac surgery at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington Delaware in 2006 where I spent the remainder of my career. During my time in Wilmington I attended Dartmouth College and received a Master's in Health Care Delivery Science (MHCDS), a specialized program combining an MBA and MPH for individuals interested in the administration and delivery of healthcare. I also received a certificate in Project Management from the Harvard School of Public Health after taking Executive and Continuing Professional Education courses which were delivered at our health system campus. Both at the Cleveland Clinic and Christiana Care I was involved in many administrative duties as well as an active clinical practice. I've worked on multiple committees and development projects over the years. In 2017 health issues forced me to discontinue my surgical practice and although I was invited to stay on in a full-time administrative role at Christiana Care I chose to pursue other interests. I started a consulting company called Banbury Consulting, LLC which specializes in advising Health Systems undergoing merger or acquisition with other programs or hospitals. My specific area of interest was talent and quality evaluation combined with cultural integration of cardiovascular programs. This business was reasonably successful until the recent issues with Covid-19 created a downturn in the demand for consulting services in general and my business specifically.

Jill and I look forward to living here as full time residents and community members.

Clarence Blackwell
I, Clarence Blackwell, would like to run for a position on the Board of Directors at RVR. My wife Anne Blackwell and I have lived full time at 4016 Crystal Bridge Drive for four years, after owning property in Aspen for thirty-five years.
I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and a graduate degree from NYU. I have experience in the corporate world and as a business owner. I continue to be the managing partner of Yacht Haven of Annapolis, Maryland. I was head of the Home Owner’s Association for Aspen Town House Central in Aspen for ten years.
My areas of interest for RVR include: finding solutions for the golf course whose owners are proposing to do away with the driving range and develop that property, making changes to the mail room which is getting worse by the day, and improving the general maintenance of RVR. Additionally, as more families move into RVR the Ranch House is not going to serve our needs.
I realize that I am not too well known in RVR, but my wife Anne is and she says that you should vote for me!
Randy “RJ” Spurrier (Incumbent)
RJ Spurrier has served on the RVR Executive Board for the last two years. He co-chairs the IT Committee and Playground Committee, and is one of the key people the Board generally turns to when they have questions related to technology or software infrastructure.
RJ is a software developer and serial entrepreneur who moved with his family of four to RVR ten years ago after his start-up, Nimblefish Technologies, was acquired by RR Donnelley after five years of consecutive 50% year-to-year revenue growth under his leadership. Prior to Nimblefish, RJ worked for five years at Adobe Systems, where he was honored to serve as the youngest Vice President at the company and was personally mentored by the two founders of the company. Prior to serving at Adobe, RJ was CEO and founder of LaserTools, a bootstrapped 45-person software firm focused on the development of innovative imaging technology, which was acquired by Adobe Systems in 1994. Spurrier holds a patent in digital imaging technology. He earned his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in robotics and automated control systems. Since moving to RVR in 2011, RJ started a new web-based business, GearLab, which he runs from his home in RVR, and also has an office in Carbondale and in South Lake Tahoe, California. RJ wrote all the software behind GearLab, which today serves more than 20 million people a year across three product-review websites: OutdoorGearLab, TechGearLab, and BabyGearLab.
RJ has extensive prior experience with HOA management, having served for the past five years as Treasurer for the HOA of the building his Carbondale office space is located in. In San Francisco, RJ was the developer of a live-work condominium project in a converted warehouse space where he and his family lived, and for which he served as President of the HOA for ten years. RJ and his family also own property in other HOA communities in the Roaring Fork Valley, which helps inform his perspective on HOA management.
RJ and his family currently live in their home on Crystal Bridge Drive, and they also own two undeveloped lots in RVR on Crystal Canyon. He and his family plan to build their future dream home in RVR in 2022. His home and lot ownership experience has served to educate RJ on RVR’’s 188 pages of Design Review guidelines, and to become intimately familiar with the rules and regulations related to RVR home development, landscaping revisions, and remodeling.
RJ believes strongly in the RVR Master Associations role in protecting member’s property values and in serving in the interests of the community. RJ asks for your support and your vote has he seeks a three-year term to continue to serve the community on the RVR Executive Board.
