Neuroscience Institute (NSI) Collaborative Pilot Research Grant |

The overarching goal of the Neurosciences Institute (NSI) Collaborative Pilot Grant is to provide pilot funding to support new research collaborations that will produce preliminary data needed to prepare subsequent research grant applications. Applications may include basic, translational, or clinical neuroscience researchers. Project must be responsive to the scientific mission of the NSI.
This initiative will provide $25,000, per year for a period of up to two years (total funding $50,000); second year of funding will be contingent on progress (as evaluated by the Pilot Grant Committee).

Global Health Reciprocal Innovation Demonstration Grants |

This request for applications seeks to leverage the global health research partnerships of the Indiana CTSI partner institutions (IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame) to develop, test and translate innovations with a high potential to (1) address a significant health challenge that is shared across Indiana and global settings and (2) that disproportionately affects marginalized/ underserved populations. Projects can focus on a specific disease condition(s) or health or social system challenge that affects health outcomes and/or access to and quality of health care. Principal Investigators from Indiana CTSI institutions must submit a multiple PI (MPI) application for this RFA, ensuring a minimum of 2 MPIs. At least one PI must be from an Indiana CTSI institution, and another PI should represent a LMIC institution/organization. Submission of a letter of intent (Letter of Intent Template) is required in order to receive approval for the submission of a full proposal.

Indiana CTSI Postdoc Challenge Grant Funding to use CTSI-Designated Core Facilities |

The Postdoc Challenge offers postdoctoral researchers at Indiana University, Indiana University School of Medicine, IUPUI, Purdue University, the University of Notre Dame and IBRI valuable proposal writing and reviewing experience in areas related to translational research through the use of one or more of the CTSI-designated core facilities at any of the partner universities. This is a competitive opportunity for a $5,000 award in the form of an expense account for use of core facility services. Funding is to be used only for services provided by the core facilities. Applications to this program are limited to $5,000 and are of one (1) year duration.

Center for Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases Pilot & Feasibility Grant |

A primary research-related activity of the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (CDMD)’s Pilot and Feasibility (P&F) program is to foster the development of new diabetes-related investigators and provide seed-support for innovative, high-risk projects.
The CDMD P&F program has three different grant mechanisms:

Parent P&F Grants: This mechanism invites applications directed towards basic biomedical, clinical, and/or translational research questions on cellular and molecular metabolism related to diabetes/obesity/metabolic syndrome, clinical and outcomes research in diabetes and obesity, complications of diabetes and obesity, islet function and survival, and nutrition and physiology of diabetes and obesity.

Alzheimer’s-Focused P&F Grants: This mechanism invites applications focused on diabetes and metabolic disease aspects of Alzheimer’s disease and its related dementias (AD/ADRD)–frontotemporal dementia, Lewy body dementia, vascular cognitive impairment with dementia, and multiple etiology dementias.

Physician-Scientist P&F Grants: This mechanism invites applications from exceptional emerging physician-scientists holding an MD (or equivalent) or MD/PhD with a patient-oriented diabetes and/or obesity-related clinical research project, who are early in their clinical research careers and show great promise to develop into future independent investigators.

- Category 1: New investigators without current or past NIH research support as a PD/PI with any current or past support from other sources being modest
- Category 2: Established investigators with no previous work in diabetes who wish to apply their expertise to a problem in diabetes research

Global Health Reciprocal Innovation Planning Grants |

The goal of this request for applications (RFA) is to facilitate the planning and designing of reciprocal innovation projects focusing on one of the identified priority areas. Activities in this RFA will be implemented through principal investigators from Indiana CTSI institutions (IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame) and collaborative partnerships between Indiana state health partners, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, health systems, government agencies, and partners from low- or middle-income countries (LMIC). The planning efforts must demonstrate an understanding of shared health challenges in underserved communities in Indiana and LMIC partner sites, as well as a commitment to the development of new programs or partnerships that will result in the development and demonstration of reciprocal innovation projects.
This award is designed to provide preliminary support for investigators to establish partnerships, develop project teams, identify promising health innovations for demonstration, develop evidence to support the demonstration of a reciprocal innovation in Indiana or at an LMIC partner site, conduct training to prepare for a reciprocal innovation demonstration project, and other activities needed to prepare competitive demonstration grant applications for reciprocal innovation.

Pilot Funding for Research Use of Core Facilities |

The Indiana CTSI Pilot Funding program is intended to promote the use of technologies and expertise afforded by the Indiana CTSI Core Facilities available at all partner institutions. Successful proposals will demonstrate outstanding scientific merit that can be linked to generating extramural funding or novel intellectual property (IP). Success of the program will be viewed, in part, by the fostering of new funded grants or providing significant contributions to grant renewals. Therefore, proposals will be judged with equal measure on scientific merit and the likelihood of generating new IP or extramural grant support.
Funding is for a maximum requested amount of $10,000; projects are typically two years in duration.

Stark Neurosciences Pre-Clinical Neuroimaging Pilot Grant |

The goal of the Pre-Clinical Neuroimaging Research Pilot Study program is to facilitate the generation of new knowledge in the neurosciences through the development of funded research programs. This mechanism will provide seed-support up to $10,000 for innovative, high-risk animal imaging projects using the Bruker BioSpec 9.4T PET-MRI scanner using the IIBIS In-Vivo Imaging Core.

This opportunity coordinates and supports the operations of the entire MPRINT Hub, providing a knowledge base that will aggregate and identify knowledge deficits in the principles of maternal and pediatric therapeutics including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, genetics, proteomics, and metabolomics that inform drug development and regulatory science.
Funding for one year for a combination of clinical fellow / postdoctoral fellow awards up to $25,000 and faculty awards up to $150,000 (total costs) for a total award amount in the range of $500,000.

Proposals requesting equipment costing between $5,000 - $100,000 will be accepted. Proposals for equipment costing more than $100,000 will be entertained if matching funds to cover the balance are identified.

IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCCC), Office of Community Outreach and Engagement is inviting collaborative proposals for implementing evidence-based cancer related programs within the community. Proposals should focus on the cancer burden in Indiana. The program should have an evaluation component and priority will be given to one of the major cancer burdens in Indiana including lung, breast, colon, pancreas, prostate and cervical. We are particularly interested in programs that can lower risk behaviors related to cancers which drive cancer incidence and morbidity. Of particular interest are community-led programs that will increase our reach or understanding of the underserved populations in Indiana. The project must be co-led by an IUSCCC faculty member and community advocate or partner.
The duration of this funding is one year, and the budget should not exceed $15,000.

IUSCCC “Near-Miss” NIH R01 Initiative |
The IUSCCC is providing an opportunity to fund cancer focused PI-directed applications to the National Institutes of Health that have been reviewed once and missed the NIH pay line and have a high potential for obtaining external funding. The goal is to increase the cancer focused NIH funding base in the IUSCCC. Non-NCI targeted applications should have significant cancer relevance. This opportunity is limited to those who are IUSCCC members.
Investigators wishing to apply to this funding mechanism must first submit a draft cover letter (letter of intent) for approval by the IUSCCC Executive Committee before working with a Coordinator to submit a full application. Once approved, the link for submitting the online application will be sent.
Maximum allowable amount for R01, R42 and R44 grants is $50K with P01 and SPORE funding amounts evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The IUSCCC requests applications from trainees (graduate students, post-docs, residents, and clinical fellows) for pilot funding to support innovative research focused on cancer. The primary purpose of this funding opportunity is to provide training on proposal writing, grant review process, and, if funded, how to manage funds. Proposals may span cancer biology, early drug development, including target identification, new model systems development and all aspects of cancer prevention and control including population science and symptom management to name a few. Proposals that provide training in new technologies are strongly encouraged. This mechanism may not be used to support clinical trials.
Funding is for up to $10,000 for one year.
