Happy Halloween! The girls are all wearing their costumes to school and the halls have been decorated for this fun day. Thank you to all who joined us last week at our Middle School and Upper School Preview Day and this past Sunday at our Lower School Parent Visit! Our faculty, administrators, students, and parents enjoyed sharing a glimpse of Hockaday with you. We continue to host Parent Visits, Campus Tours, and other special events such as our Financial Aid Information Night, Boarding Family Visits, and Diversity and Inclusion Panel and Reception, in the coming weeks and months. I hope you will feel welcome to join us.
Hockaday is extremely grateful not to have sustained any damage as a result of the recent storms, and we are hopeful that whether you were impacted directly or indirectly, that you and your family are receiving the support you need during this difficult time. Every effort has been made to ensure those in our community have their needs met, and the outpouring of support has been inspiring to watch. Throughout the week, faculty, staff, and students have volunteered their time and resources to support our Dallas County partners and schools which sustained extensive damage. Rebuilding and recovery efforts will take time, and Hockaday’s commitment will remain steady through volunteer programs, service drives, and on-site support. In fact, the majority of the books sold at our annual 4th grade book sale was then donated to schools whose libraries were lost and the 4th grade girls have elected to donate the proceeds of the sale to recovery efforts.
There were many bright spots in our school community last week. Our girls had fun watching the entire 8th grade class produce and perform in the 8th grade Musical, Mary Poppins, Jr., setting up and running the 4th grade book sale, and cheering on our fall sports teams as they wrap up their seasons. Our Upper School girls on the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) team put together a robot that competed at Brookhaven College and Middle School robotics teams are working steadily during their “build” season.
Student shadow visits have begun for our Middle and Upper School applicants who are interested in seeing a day in the life of a Hockaday girl, and I encourage you to schedule a visit for your daughter in the parent portal at your convenience.
