Welcome      Grow       Serve      Celebrate

Sunday in worship we welcomed four new members to Parkway Hills UMC!
Art & Connie Starkey and Phillips & Maggie King all came forward to let us know they’ve found a faith home here.
Connie, Art, Phillips, and Maggie, we’re so excited that you’re here and believe deeply in how God is calling us together!
Welcome Connie and Art , Phillips and Maggie via email to the PHUMC family, and greet them in person in Worship.

Sunday, August 6 will be a full Sunday for our Parkway Hills family, and we hope everyone is making plans to attend. We will pray for our teachers and students as a new year begins, be blessed with special music from our adult and children handbells, mark milestones as we hand out Kindergarten and 3rd grade Bibles, celebrate Promotion Sunday, wrap up our Great Church Chill Out worship series, and end the day with food and fun for our kids and youth. This would be a great Sunday to invite a teacher and/or family to join you at Parkway Hills UMC!

Shrimp Boil and Splash Party

A great crowd, lots of shrimp, refreshing water pools, fun slides, and plenty of opportunities to visit with one another made last Wednesday evening a success, despite the excessive heat warning from the National Weather Service. Thank you to all who made this a fun event, especially Jean Dunn and Brandon Jones, who were in charge of the most important part, the food!!
Mary Beth Stevens, with Southern Christian Services (pictured center, back row), spoke to the Quilting Ministry this week about the children that are receiving the prayer quilts that PHUMC Quilters have made. "In response to the love of Christ, Southern Christian Services for Children and Youth serves and equips vulnerable children and youth, assisting them in the process of becoming self-sufficient contributing members of society." So far, the PHUMC quilters have provided 959 hand-made prayer quilts, most of which go to children in distress. Each quilt has the child's name and belongs to the child to keep. For more information about the Prayer Quilt Ministry, which meets in the Garden Room on Mondays from noon to 3:00 pm, contact Cheryl Blacklidge.

Created By God is a UMC-endorsed curriculum teaching 5th and 6th graders and their families about faith and human sexuality. Parkway Hills UMC will be offering this course Friday, Aug.11 and Saturday, Aug.12 to our families and students. We will extend this opportunity to our rising 7th graders as well since this group missed Created By God due to Covid. The course will be $30 per student (this includes the meals, book, and materials for the course). If you are interested in your child taking part in this course, please fill out the registration form and bring it to Pastor Haven at church. We will also have printed forms available to fill out. The registration deadline is August 1. Invite any friends that may be interested in taking this course as well. Click here to register.
Big House Books
Big House Books is a non-profit, volunteer organization that sends free books by request to prisoners in Mississippi correctional facilities in order to promote literacy and be a vehicle of change for prison reform.
We have placed a bin in the foyer of the Education Building for book donations.
All books must be paperback and in good condition. The current needs are: Bibles/Bible studies and devotionals; activity books (word searches, crosswords, sudoku); dictionaries and thesauruses; computer/IT; skills and trade books; westerns; fantasy; vampire romance; works of popular authors Lisa Jackson, James Patterson, John Grisham, Stephen King, Greg Iles, and Dean Koontz.

If you would like more information about this ministry, contact Amanda Hamilton.

Sunday School Volunteers: Promotion Sunday on August 6 begins our new age group Sunday School classes. We are starting a new unit studying the celebrations in the Bible. We will have four Sunday School classes from PreK - 6th grade and will need your help teaching the sessions. If you are interested in volunteering, click here to sign up to teach. All volunteers must have a background check before volunteering in children's ministry.
