When I picture the worship space at Parkway Hills,
I picture windows.
I love the many windows at our church. I love that we can look outside and see trees, sun, rain, and birds; and I love that our stained glass windows have a story. These beautiful, 115 year-old windows originally illuminated Capitol Street United Methodist Church in Jackson. When that church closed, a new home, a new beginning was pictured for them in the master plan of our newly constituted church.
These windows help us picture the story of Christ. The three at the back of our worship space move from Bethlehem, to Jesus’ time of teaching and healing, and finally to the cross.
We, too, move through the story of Christ every year. We step into the waiting and hope of Advent as the holiday season begins and we proclaim Emmanuel, God with us, as Christmas day arrives. Today, we lift up the light of Epiphany and remember the wise men from the east who help us picture who this Christ is. As we approach Lent, we watch as Jesus walks among us; calling, teaching, healing, loving, listening, and challenging. We watch as Jesus ministers throughout Galilee. I invite you to join me and your church family beginning this Sunday, January 10th, as we begin a 5-week series walking with Jesus.
2020, a year like no other, has ended. We carry the scars of this tumultuous year with us into 2021 and we know we still have a long way to go to heal. Let us picture ourselves walking with Jesus, listening and learning from the One who shows us how to move through each day bringing good news, offering healing, and working to create redemption and renewal in the broken places of life.
Join us at 10 am, outside on the lawn (weather permitting) or online, and invite a friend! - Pastor Dawn
