Baccalaureate is this Sunday, May 5, and we need your help!

Sunday is a special day within the life of our church and you don't want to miss.  We will recognize our graduating high school and college seniors, share communion, and pray for the next step in their journey.  During Sunday School (9:30-10:25 am), we will host a brunch in the youth suite for our high school graduates and their families. Everyone is invited to come by, grab some food, and wish the graduates well. We need your help to make sure the brunch is a success. Click here to sign-up.

Two ways to engage in the life of the church at PHUMC

At PHUMC’s January Mission and Ministry Day apart, members discussed how we might better care for and support one another as a church family.  A few of those present at the meeting met later to further develop this idea and begin the work on a congregational care team for PHUMC. The first meeting of this new ministry is tonight at 5:30 in the parlor of the education building. If you feel led to be a part of this new ministry or just want to hear more about it, join the team tonight.    
Our next mission and ministry time apart is Wednesday, May 8 at 6:00 pm in the Garden room. Come dream and plan alongside your PHUMC family. Dinner provided and childcare available upon request.    
Join us in celebrating our teachers at East Flora Elementary School! We are collecting thank you cards and $10 gift cards for 55 teachers and staff. Please bring the cards to the church by Monday, May 6 and place them in the baskets in the foyers of either building. We will also host an appreciation lunch at East Flora Elementary School on Wednesday, May 8. Meet at PHUMC at 10:30 a.m., and we will carpool to East Flora Elementary. Our teachers have worked so hard to help the students learn and grow in their education. Let's celebrate all the hard work they have done over this year.

District 4 (formerly East and West Jackson District) of the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church is hosting its second annual Missions in May, Saturday, May 18.  Join other United Methodists from across Central Mississippi in reaching out in service and love. Click the link to register. The five mission areas provide an opportunity for all skill sets to serve.  We hope you'll join in for a day of service and fellowship with other UM laity and clergy. All Mission sites will begin volunteering at 8:00 a.m. and conclude the day of service at noon.  

Bombas!

Nineteen boxes of Bombas socks were delivered this week.This kind delivery person said he was happy to be a part of the good work that PHUMC and Bombas are doing to distribute socks to the needy. The shipment adds about 4,750 pairs of premium socks to be given away. Bombas gives a pair of socks away for every pair the company sells, and PHUMC is appreciative to be chosen by Bombas to be a part of this ministry.
Join the party at PHUMC for VBS this summer!
We need volunteers to help with VBS week from leading stations, small groups, assisting leaders and so much more. Click the link to fill out the interest form for VBS. All volunteers are required to fill out a background check. Contact Haven with any questions or to receive more information about VBS. 
Children's Sunday School begins in the Garden at 9:30 am. Ages 3 years old - 4th grade welcome. We will focus on the importance of sharing in our Bible stories as we learn more about the Great Commission and stories from the Book of Acts. We will need  a PreK and Kindergarten teacher this Sunday. To *volunteer click this link.

Waco trip participants: We'll be having a participants' meeting on May 22 from 5:30-7:30 to plan parts of our service opportunities and assign roles. Brown bag dinner. Parents are welcome to stay but not required.

After the rain stopped, the PHUMC picnic happened at Liberty Park Sunday evening, with a good group of folks that enjoyed the pizza and the fellowship.
